This tower design evolved - I had 2 of the 3

The earliest versions came with a pin. This was later swapped to a bolt to reduce rattling. Mine came with a bolt, but I replaced with a pin as I rarely used it & valued removability over the rattling.

The later versions were supplied with a thread through 50% of the hole in the piece you insert, so you had to screw the bolt in and then add an additional nut. It was a PITA to remove, but didn't rattle.

Both LR supplied bolts had a hole for an additional retaining clip, which could be placed with a small padlock

Ian is correct though - it's illegal to modify a type approved tow bar.

Does anyone have a source for the bolt? Or a part number?
My bar has been swapped from a swan neck to the "farmers" adjustable and the original bolt doesn`t fit because of the thread in the removeable part. I need the bolt with thread 2/3rds of the way up the bolt, but with the shoulder to take the contact - exactly as the one shown in the pic above.
I can get a fully threaded set screw but it can`t be as strong and will fret the thread against the fixed part of the bar, I reckon. I would prefer to stay as the original design but can`t source the bolt from my normal places.
Thanks

Aussie tow bars usually have a bolt which can be tightened to stop the rattle of the tongue in the receiver. Ron B. VK2OTC

Simple solution is to drill a small hole in the receiver , tap a thread and screw a bolt in of correct size, the bolt can be tightened until it grips the tongue and rattle is gone . or alternative drill a hole and weld a nut to the receiver and screw a suitable bolt in.

^as above, not a good idea to be drilling type approved bars, it will most likely invalidate your insurance should anything go wrong. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi Alistair,
Do you have a part number for the threaded one?
Many Thanks.

I'm not sure they had different numbers - or were just considered different versions of the same part.

Maybe 323063 ?

I doubt you'll find a new one anywhere, so if buying used, I guess you're relying on a photo ?

Thankyou for the reply Alistair, I have emailed Westfalia UK (now owned by Witter) so will report back with the findings. Out of interest, what side was the thread on?
Many Thanks.
