Comports, I too would not like to lose my stage 2 amp if I went this route. All the BMW chaps must be in the same boat ? Needing to fool the DSP to power on.... Somebody must have done it surely ? But searching the web doesn't show much unless I'm using the wrong keywords.

Agreed - Baris - If you're reading this - Is it possible to upgrade my amp to include the aux input and then I presume I would just connect the aux output cables to the amp and not worry about the speaker wires (as the aux out does that)..?

How do you wire the head unit if your putting the original in the glove box..? Do you still need the dsp conected or can you remove ?

The head unit just stays connected to the original wires, you run a new wire for the Android one to the rear...

Don't know if you "have" to use it or not....

IMHO It would make sense to use it as the speakers are connected to it and it will be powered on, so you just need to piggy back the connector on the BM54, which from looking at the loom on the android unit, it's how it's designed to plug in. There is not an Aux as such on the existing system without the later firmware upgrade on the BM54 I believe, so I would imagine the new unit overrides the sound from the other sources via the plug. I have also been told that if setup, Aux will not appear as an option unless the system detects something connected to it..... But have not tested that.

You do need it to use the Aux heating... and set the clock... although you can do that by pulling the fuse at 12oclock and it resets... Pete

Just having a mooch around and I've seen that this thread has got on to the DSP, looking at the wiring for the BM54, on the main plug there is a white wire coming from pin 13 thats labelled 'Remote on off to amp', has anyone looked at the state of this wire and tried to emulate this to see if the DSP turns on? Surely it's going to be in one of 2 states, either it will be switching to earth or it will be going live (+12v). After all the DSP is an add on and therefore only requires to be turned on to work, as it's connected to the speaker outs from the BM54, and processes the sound at full volume? Could you not wire your new head unit to the input wires for the dsp and then turn it on remotely. Failing that by accessing the the inputs you have disconnected the factory unit, and assuming that you've gone down the route of stuffing it all in the glovebox, can it not be turned on here and adjusted, but fed with the sound from the new head unit.

The white wire from pin 13 is the can bus wire, it needs a control down that wire to turn the amp on and adjust the sound. There is no direct control wire to the DSP.

Ok so what about the idea of using the old head unit to turn the DSP on, but feed it with the sound from the new head unit?

Yeah, sorry, me being thick, the white one is at pin 13 on the radio and pin 4 on the DSP, it's for the aerial amplifier, it does get a 12v from the Android unit but it still seems it won't turn the amp on...

I know what you mean there, but sometimes I reset the fuel computer and try and get a good return, it does teach you to be gentle with the loud peddle! And on one eventful trip I did manage to get it up to 36 mpg, just before the suspension collapsed and I had to go at 35 the rest of the journey What I saved in fuel, I then blew on new struts, and then some Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
