Think its just the other side the sill........

You need to take the cover off, and give it a tap with something, see if it springs into life.......

Seems to make sense from what is being said. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

if i do remove the tube to the filter and nothing comes through, how would i know if the problem was the main pump on top of the tank or the secondary one under the car Question Question Question Question

Just get someone to tap the secondary pump whilst the car is turning over, or tap it and then go and try it again.

I wouldn't worry what fuel is in what pipe.

Fuel can be there, but if its not being moved along the pipe under the correct pressure, the car won't start.

You shouldn't need to be under the car to be able to remove the cover and give the pump a knock.

You may need to be to get the unit out or put the cover back on, but at least you may know more by that time........ 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Nothing to do with the filter, the pump will be worn, they all do eventually.

Remove the coverplate as per the post above and with a spanner give the pump a light tap, then switch on the ignition and you should hear it running, then start up the engine. It will most likely work for a week or two before stopping again. The solution is to fit a new pump

Re the removal of tubes, I'd imagine you'd remove the feed to the secondary pump, and see if fuel is pumped when ignition is on. If so, main pump in tank is going.

Of course, it could still not be pumping at correct pressure.

Not an expert here, but you may get air in places you don't want it etc.

I'd stick to tapping the secondary pump and seeing if the car starts.

If it does, more than likely its the secondary pump, if not, could still be either.

If you manage to get it going, you can then get to a garage for a more professional test and diagnosis.

At least thats what I'd do. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Looking at this forum for the past two years, your most likely candidate is the secondary fuel pump. Luckily it is the easiest to replace and the cheapest of the pumps. Pity you didn't have any previous warning. I hope you get it sorted soon (and the statistics are in your favour of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Really hope this doesnt sound like taking the Censored as it is not! would it not be worth just chucking in some fuel incase? This has happened to a mate before. I am sure it is not but the easiest thing to rule out at least before buying pumps!

HI GUYS

sorry not got straight back to your replies, but had a dinner date so to speak and just got back ( in the van ), from the chateau. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed how embarrassing is that.

anyway, i will see if i can get under the rangie tomorrow, Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad , depending on the situation with the snow. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter , and hope i can at least determine that it is the 2ndhairy pump Whistle Whistle Whistle at fault.

to tell you the truth, this has really scared me and put me in a state of uncertainty regarding my faith in these beautifull RR. i just cannot believe that such a serious problem could just happen without so much as a snap of your fingers Censored Exclamation Crying or Very sad Twisted Evil .

especially living in the middle of the dordogne countryside. i could have gone out into the country for a couple of hours drive, pulled into a forest somewhere remote to do a spot of fishing, got back in the car just before dark, and the rest is unthinkable. how can such a prestige vehicle just stop working like that without warning. that is so scary for sure.

with regard to the last post and the fuel issue, i had actually thought about the possibility of lack of fuel, or low fuel level, and if i had parked in the drive with the back of the car pointing down the slope then i would have considered that perhaps i was not drawing fuel, but the front of the car was facing down the slope so i assume this was not the problem, especially as the car started first turn of the key 2 hours beforehand.

anyway, i did get the car down onto level ground and has still not solved the problem. i did start the fbh and that runs fine so i guess it has a seperate fuel pump?

i will let you all know how i get on, Censored Censored Censored Question Question Exclamation Exclamation and thanks again to you all for your time; you truly are a great bunch of guys. Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down

hopefully speak again tomorrow.

regards

bob

I'm pretty sure the FBH has its own system, if I remember right from a month or so ago when I read about it.

Even if tapping the pump won't help it going, it may still be screwed. I hope it is just the pump as it is probably the easiest apart from no fuel. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

unbelievable

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up you guys are unbelievable, Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Censored Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down i guess you have realised by now it was exactly what you said it was Very Happy , i removed the panel, gave it a tap, and it started buzzing away, and it started. Bow down Bow down Bow down

so at least if it stops again before i have changed it over, i will know what to do. what i wont do is buy it in france as it will be twice as much, so will try and get one in the uk.

perhaps i was a little harsh about loosing faith with the rangie Whistle , but i would have been happier if i had some sort of warning that it was on its way out.

but with a bunch of guys like you lot, who are allways so quick of the mark to help out, i shoulden't have any worries in the future. you are all stars so thanks a lot for your, as usual, fast and accurate response. Thumbs Up

ps excuse the spelling Embarassed im a builder not a speller Exclamation Exclamation Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
