Immobiliser problem or Steering Lock problem

Hy all,

I was stranded at the local village for about 15 minutes with a snag on the rangie and wanted to run it by you all to see what the general concensus was, funny I was smugly thinking yesterday how great it was running Confused

Went into shop and locked the rangie behind me or so I thought.Came back and found the door ajar. The drivers seat buckle caught in the door preventing it closing properly. No probs I think and when I go to start it the key wont go past pos 1 and the electric steering lock is clicking away repeatedly,as it hadnt engaged. The steering lock was clicking away by itself as I was sitting in the car with no key in the ignition .Tried locking and unlocking a few times to see if that helped or was it an alarm issue with no luck at all.Pulled fuse 18 for the immobiliser ,reset it and after that a jiggle of the wheel we were off.Just home now and am trying a full reset with the battery disconnected for a bit. Exclamation

So whats the thoughts, did the door open upset the alarm and immobiliser or is it coincedental with something else like a steering lock failure.I'm leaning towards the first as I couldnt turn the key and fuse 18 helped matters. Its been very wet here the last few days and with all the driving through heavy water I'm wondering has moisture got where it shouldn't have...??

all thoughts appreciated Thumbs Up

If you have an air line that would work better then spray some WD40 into it

hoovered and air line blasted it and wd40 = no change unfortunately Big Cry

Did battery off/reset = no change

don't have a second key unfortunately

the only way she will start is by pulling and refitting fuse 18.then as soon as I turn her off its back to the same scenario which is to be more accurate,I actually am not getting fully to position one with the key as no lights on dash while the steering lock does a double click 3 times and a double click when I pull the key out and then no steering lock at all

hmmm

Have slept on it,am going to try take out the ignition switch contacts housing and soak in contact cleaner and clean out the barrel as best as I can.Seems like the best place to start having read Johnte's thread and a few others.

Anybody done this and any pitfalls to watch out for...?
