The button on the top of the lower tailgate has suddenly started to misbehave. It does open sometimes, usually after a bit of jiggling around.

Yep, that noise is very familiar. Sounds like it is coming from the top left ton of the engine but, in reality, it's the rods screwing up the crankshaft.
