Difficult to see where it is in relation to the rest of the engine components but looks like heat damage to me.

The brake pedal needs servo assistance to be able to comfortably press it down enough to engage the starter safety switch. It only takes 1 or 2 pedal actuations as a result of a no start to drain it.

As said it's easy to fit them the wrong way. Also the wiring is poorly protected ( typical of the whole car) so it may be this is the fault and not the actual sensor.
