Now back in the UK, so done my due diligence. I must say this one was a bit seat of the pants, from all of the warning flags I should have been running away as quickly as possible. The guy selling the car hadn't registered it, so no V5, on top of the accident damage etc etc.

Anyway, now I've found out the full story, and it's great. The one owner from new is a billionaire who owns some very fashionable restaurants in London (name withheld for discretion/privacy reasons). They guy selling it has full authority/ rights over it and is very reliable, so the description of damage is likely to be spot on.

So now I'm really looking forward to getting it, getting it fixed up and on the road. Going to be a long wait whilst it's done!

Big Cry

I would be VERY CAUTIOUS indeed with no V5 and the damage. How have you verified the guy really has legal right over the car and that the "Billionaire owns it? Neutral

I've spoken to the P.A. of the owner (I got the number myself by calling some of his restaurants), and she gave me the phone number of his estate in Somerset, where I spoke to the house manager, who confirmed that the guy selling it to me, is the local mechanic who they sold it to.

The guy himself probably didn't drive it as a five year old car, he has quite a few other cars, and more recent FFRR's. The latest driver was in fact the house manager who I spoke to.

Oh, and the V5 did in fact arrive today, so I'll be picking that up with the car! Very Happy Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Quote from a website I found.......

There's an enormous black marble bar, blackjack table, dining room that seats 18, enormous green plastic elephant and souped-up Range Rovers with tinted windows on the driveway. Oh yes, and a nice flat patch of grass out front for landing his helicopter.......... Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

I'm not sure what they mean by souped up, I think that's a little journalistic licence, this one at least seems to be bog standard, there again, maybe he only purchased it for the housekeeper! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I looked very hard at this, it would easily turn a profit given the damage described - however when I spoke to the seller there was mention of Suspension damage and Steering Damage.

If the hub is damaged (that smacked into the other car) then you may find the costs really start to mount up. I would be concerned about the integrity of the front sub-frame & diff as that would have taken a fair old amount of force as it was transmitted through the drive-shaft.

I also didn't like the look of the NS A pillar... as if that is even bent slightly out it will twist the rest of the car.

That being said, if you picked it up for a song then it will be hard to loose money!

Isn't it just better to get a straight car for 15-19k.

There is a nice one being sold by X5 PEA for a very good price...

I understand where you are coming from, but in terms of security and assurity surely he is better off going with a car that hasn't been crash damaged and isn't going to end up costing more than a straight car would.

I've been involved in a lot of projects, from properties to cars to businesses and there are always unexpected costs.

So in reality, what will this car cost to put right?
