No HVAC fans, Final stage resistor removed

I don't have any front ventilation / air con fans ???? the lights around the control knob illuminate when I turn it up and down but no fans, I have replaced the final stage resitor unit (hedgehog) with a new unit and it's still the same ? I even tried a second FSR just in case, I have it booked in to my independant landi specialists tomorrow to see what the diagnostics show if anything, anyone got any ideas ? Question Question

I have removed fuses 12, 25 , 61 and 64 (all those that feed the blower motor and the HVAC control module) left them out for 30 mins refitted with no benefit.
Landrover specialist today said £1100 for new blower motor ?? but when driving away the blowers working fine ?

that's the strange about the range, one minute all the dash lights are lighting up then next day everything is back to normal..

possibly a loose connection from when you fitted the resistor is now ok..

When was your pollen filter last changed?

In the P38, if they werent changed they blocked the air flow, then the motors overheated.

It is also possible that the filter has dissintegrated and is jamming the motor... This is easy to check. You can take the whole intake out with just two nuts:

My Pollen filter was changed in July 2010 so should be fine, I recently did my rocker cover and so had the pollen filter off, so I should remove again and have a feel if anything has dropped down.

I don't surpose anyone knows where fan is located ? I presume remove the side cover under glove box or opposite side under steering wheel ?

If you look through the two holes you will see the fan.

It's a dash out job to replace (the entire dash!)

Looks like this:

My fan / blower is the cause, if you remove the intake and spin the fan (with the power off / key out) you may be lucky and it will work, mine has so far but occassionally makes a squeek so will need looking at £1100 Sad

Yeh, I will have to look at this on Thursday when I'm off, have read that it could be the FSR, which I replaced 3 years ago, but I am aware i had some squeaking/dry noises from my fan on several occasions and then went.

Ideally I should take fan out and see if it is servicable but sounds like a ball ache to get to it. Anyway fingers crossed.

If the fan motor has died, I would suggest that rather than paying £1100 for a replacement, your local alternator repair place (look in yellow pages) would be able to rewind the motor coils for not very much (I would expect less than £100) - not much else to go wrong ...

Its the getting it out and putting it back that costs the money. You have to remove the whole dash top get at it Big Cry .

Just a little feedback for you, I took my pollen filter cover out yesterday had a feel of my blow fan blades which moved ok, then I put ignition on started blowers and they work Bow down so they must have been sticky. I had some V belt spray, which I think is an alcohol based type cleaner (from tool station) and easily evaporates and sprayed this into the blower area when not running then when running. Seems to be working fine so fingers crossed Whistle
