Problem with Mk4 Sat Nav

Ive just purchased a Mk4 BMW sat nav from a gentleman on ebay

The problem is when I connect it, the screen is blank I can toggle the switches and get radio and Ipod but thats it.

When I plug the MK3 back in, it works perfectly

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers

Paul

Now that its dark. I can seen the screen does light up, but just a dull grey light with no symbols
I can get sound from radio and iPod by pressing the mode button but its plays for approximate 5 minutes
then silence. If I then press the on off button sound returns

Do a YouTube video showing the connect up and turn on starting at the plug in of the mk4 to the front screen and give a running commentary and then do the same with the mk3

Post both on YouTube and give links to PayPal team

They can't argue with that

Having a long background in owning BMW's I can assure you that these units are prone to damage if they are powered up and either the cables to it, or the battery disconnected before being allowed to power down normally fries the main board which can be replaced

That sounds interesting

How much is the PCB and is it a DIY fix or do I need to send it to a repairer

Right I may have light at the end of the tunnel Sad

Ive just spoken to a nav repairer and he said it may be a mono chrome system, one that has business nav installed so just arrow display and not colour maps, in which case, it wont work in my colour display.
He said the software will need updating at a cost of £100

Is he talking about the version 32 software? Ive been trying, unsuccesfully to write this to disc after downloading it from a link on here

The only thing with the V32 upgrade is that ur gonna need a display to see that the update is working

As Cliffy says, you will need a screen to see the update, however It is automated from what I can remember. If you have downloaded a BMW version of the V32 code, you will end up with a BMW logo on your start up screen, but this can be changed by editing the files on the CD
