2003 '03' V8 Vogue FSH

Ok, so, I've been toying with the idea of possibly moving on to a Mercedes CLS, seen a couple, driven one and I've been very impressed. I was after a CLS before I bought my RR 18 months ago, but the prices were a little high still, they've came down to an affordable level for me now, so, before I take the plunge and buy a house, I'm thinking sod it, I might try a different barge while I still can. (My parents aren't getting rid of me yet!!!! Laughing

So, mainly testing the water here, but here's the details.

2003 '03' V8 Vogue with just under 96k with LR main dealer and LR specialist history, taxed until 12/11 and MOT until 17th Nov 2011. Epsom green with Ivory leather & walnut wood and light green/Aspen carpets. In my opinion, one of the classiest colour combo's, but that's a personal thing, it does look fantastic in the sun due to it being pearlescent.

Exterior is in very good order, being picky, there's a mark on the back bumper, not really noticeable but it's there all the same, there's also a small scratch which has been touched in on the very lower back corner of the o/s/r door only about 1" though. Nothing else that I can really think of to be honest.

Interior is in very good condition, Ivory seats are nice and clean, treated fortnightly with gliptone leather treatment to keep the leather tidy. Again, being picky, there's a 1" scratch in the leather on the o/s/r seat base which I presume is off my nephews car seat, only noticed it yesterday, the rest of the trim is in good condition, carpets are clean with no stains. All the electrical items work, air con is ice cold.

The only thing that's temperamental is the rear parking sensors, they sometimes make the constant beep as if something is right behind the car, I'm going to address this and see what's causing it, there's some corrosion under the paint on one of the sensors so I'll try that first.

Standard Vogue spec plus the following:

Tracker
Mk4 nav with 2010 disc
BMW BM54 with Aux input, currently linked with an ipod/iphone cable so charges and plays at the same time, Autobiography walnut interior door handles, standard foundry finish handles available too.
Genuine LR Aspen/green leather bound over mats, original LR rubber mats included too for any off road days, not that this has ever been off road!
255/5519 MTR tyres, (original Goodyear HP tyres available too although maybe only 3mm on those)
Genuine LR rigid boot protector with cubby hole tray
Storage nets in boot
Navcoder interface for setting TV in motion, DRL's etc.
2007 spec red/clear tail lights with the side reflectors.

In the time I've had it, I've had the following work carried out so it's tip-top condition:

2 x ARB drop links
Thermostat housing including all sensors due to broken sensor
Header tank to radiator hose replaced
PCV hoses changed
O/S headlight glass and indicator due to original having a big stone chip which resulted in a big crack.
Front diff recall completed last year at Team Valley LR Gateshead.
2 x service @ Team Valley LR
2 x front seat valance/side trims as originals worn and the silver trim cracked.
Correct size Bosch silver top battery with 5 year warranty, (4 1/2 years left)

Pics.

Having looked round at what's for sale, I was thinking about £11000 ono which I believe is a fair price. The private plate is not included and will be back on the original BJ03 URV. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Sadly, no, I've been toying with the idea of something a bit more frugal, until the price of TDV8's come down to a level I can afford, I'm going to try a Mercedes CLS. I originally wanted one before I bought the RR but the prices were still a bit higher than my budget, now though, they're within reach. Add to the fact that realistically, next next big purchase for me should be my own house, so really, this should be my last big/expensive (for me) car purchase for some time, it's an itch that's needed scratched for a while, so my thinking is, buy one now while I have the chance before I have a mortgage and a house to worry about Laughing

I've been driven in a couple and been very impressed, one of which was a remapped 320cdi which was pretty quick yet still managed 45mpg - 50mph on the motorway. I drove one last weekend and they just feel right, so sadly, the RR will have to go.

It will kill me to see it go, but I'm like that with every car I buy and sell. Laughing 2006 Mercedes CLS

I know what you mean. Make sure you get one with decent mileage (dont go for a 150k mileage thats been torn to pieces) I was going to buy one at one point, but the back windows feel too small.

A great car for the money though, and they are pretty economic too mpg wise. Are you going for the 4 or 5 seater? I liked the idea of 2 seats in the back, as i think it looks prestigous. Although it limits you to carrying 3 passengers.

Either way, I hope that you stick around for a while until you purchase your next FFRR, which I'm sure you will return to someday, the fact they are the best vehicle on the road.. Thumbs Up

PJS - I thought they were all 4 seater?

Either way, yeah 4 seater, very rare I ever have more than 3 other passengers. I was looking at the CLS500 but a 5.5 V8 is just stupid, it'll be worth nothing in a few years if petrol continues to rise. After being in my mates dad's S class, (320cdi also) I was amazed at how smooth the power delivery was and actually how much mid range shove there is from them. I went down with my mate and his dad to look at the car thn my mate went back a couple of days later to collect it, he was averaging 47mpg on the motorway run back up from Leeds.

I'll be sticking around though, you never know, Gaz might juat happen to have a TDV8 for sale that might tempt me back into a full fat!

pretlove - I'll definitely put some pics up Thumbs Up 2006 Mercedes CLS

Embarassed I think you're right there. I'm sure i saw a 5 seater in the dealers, but it doesn't look as though they do a 5 seater, my bad.

I had an E320 CDI and that was amazing, it was avantgarde and hard the sports mode which was pretty cool.

I personally think the S class is the big daddy. Can pick up a decent S class, in the old style (pre 2006 I think) at a decent price. Can also pick up a decent 2006+ for around £17,000 usually with high mileage.

I paid £27,500 for my Mercedes and sold it for £19,000 a year later, so lost so much money I never returned to a mercedes. But i think that some CLS are at such a good price they will never lose any more value Smile

I definitely agree with the idea about a petrol being worth nothing. Stick to diesel - usually more economic Thumbs Up
