From my experience and knowledge I'd say you're spot on. For your 4th point BY is black with a yellow tracer. The first pages of a wiring diagram often have a colour key and some help with the other points you have mentioned. For your 5th point I'm pretty positive that is just where two wires are spliced into one for example if the pins on a connector cannot carry the required current there might be two pins used instead which then splice into one. |

Here's one I found on a L322 wiring diagram for my 5.0, JLR are pretty standard for these things so it should be the same

The 2006 wiring diagram in the wiki has a chapter on how to read the diagrams, it should cover everything needed.
