How to read a wiring diagram

Hello, a search has proved fruitless but hopefully this is not a re-post.

I think I am working out some of the symbols, colours and letters but I could do with some pointers and if I am on the correct track.

For example, for the engine wiring on a late L322:

1. Looking at the ECM, top left; VBR1 and C0658-3. I assume C0658 is the connector number and 3 is the pin number?

2. Immediately to the left of that it has RW,2.5D,1165. My guess is red white, 2.5mm diameter, 1,165mm length?

3. Immediately to the left of point 2 it has C2552-19 C2553-19 and a symbol of a circle inside a half-circle (reverse C); C2552 and C2553 are connectors, pins 19 and the symbol is two connectors meeting/joining (male/female)?

4. Looking at the green and yellow line in the middle, it has BY. I assume Y is yellow but why is it B?

5. Moving up to the pink and yellow line, what is SJ905? Is it a junction number?

From my experience and knowledge I'd say you're spot on. For your 4th point BY is black with a yellow tracer. The first pages of a wiring diagram often have a colour key and some help with the other points you have mentioned. For your 5th point I'm pretty positive that is just where two wires are spliced into one for example if the pins on a connector cannot carry the required current there might be two pins used instead which then splice into one.

The 2006 wiring diagram in the wiki has a chapter on how to read the diagrams, it should cover everything needed.

Thanks Graeme.

I am back home this weekend so I am trying to prepare myself for more ongoing diagnosis for my crank, no-start issue.

I will be probing for voltages around the various sensors and harnesses. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand
