Has anyone else tried the vacuum pump mod described by Jaguar3? Would be nice to have a confirmation on a different car Smile 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I have done it but I can’t comment on whether it would have fixed the smoke issue as I had already done the secondary turbo drain mod in June last year, which did successfully cure my cars bad smoking habit. All I can say is that I did Jaguar3’s mod in November last year and have seen no bad effects from doing it. I just did it because his logic seemed sound and I wanted my scavenger pump to be working more efficiently. My car is a daily driver and I average 300 miles a week. 2012 Westminster TDV8 4.4 Indus Silver

Today I did this modification.
The oil connection was a bit difficult to undo. The push spots for the quick connector are not easy to push, so you need to rotate the pipe a little to be able to pressh two push spots inwards.

It was a bit nerv wrecking to split open the oil side of the pump as I was very gentle not to break the seal inbetween

Another point is the agle of the drilling. If you know the location of the oil feedline, it is easy to estimate the angle.

I will report back after couple of hundred kms Smile

Thank you jaguar3 for this instructions 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Dear all,

Sorry for the delay on reporting. I have been quite busy, mainly with our new born Smile
I can definitely say that the smoke has significantly reduced but It is not totally gone.

Before the mod, I would get a big smoke puff after driving city for about a week. It was one large cloud lasting maybe 2-3 seconds

Now after the mod, once in a while i see some smoke if i accelerate hard, but its not that huge of a cloud as before.

To conclude, definitely worth doing specially considering the low effort. Just be gentle when you do the job. A new pump costs like 300 euros in Germany 😬 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Don’t use loose oil from the filler on changing filter if you block the drain hole with the bolt method 2012 Westminster 4.4 tdv8

I think JayGee has the view that by sealing the hole with an M5 head screw, when he comes to change the oil filter, he is also changing the oil at the same time, so it does not matter if the old oil has nowhere to drain away, by carefully removing the old filter and using rags you can capture most of this old oil as the oil filter comes out.

I also thought about blocking the hole but bought a new rubber bung/valve from America for $12 USD

JayGee wrote:
Pulled the oil release spring and cap just now and the rubber on the cap was very hard so replaced it with an M5 short cap head screw and some PTFE tape to seal it. 5mm is just enough to cut it's way into the alloy housing for a secure fit.
