That’s what I’m thinking. It has only done 65k, and while it will be coming up to telling me it needs some new bushes etc, I can live with that. Nothing on the to do list is particularly expensive and most is preventative.

The only thing which is out of the normal run of things is the tank shield. It doesn’t look technically difficult to do but I’m not trying to take an exhaust off and remove the prop at home….. it does have a fair sized hole in it so will need doing for peace of mind as that bit of the tank is quite exposed. It not something that I’ve seen anyone else have an issue with so I guess it’s just one of those things.

It’s not like it’s been unreliable this year either. It threw me a code for fuel rail pressure which never came back, gave me grief about old Adblue, which once I had the right tool was easily sorted and has had a warrantied EGT sensor replaced. Would I get less problems with a newer car……. 🤷‍♂️ There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Ive had a quiet morning as SwMBO has gone out……

Looking back I replaced the main battery when I got the car, with a gen LR on I had taken out of my 322, as it was only a couple of months old….. so the battery is now 5 1/2 years old. I still have the battery I took out sitting in the garage, it has been charged and reconditioned on my Ctek, but it would have been a 4 year old battery which has now been sitting about for 5 years….. I’m thinking it’s probably junk needing to go to the tip….

While I’ve been doing my morning Google, I had a quick search for a replacement battery. Tanya did the Exide EX950 which has now been superseded to the EX960 which is an 017. From memory I think it’s the right one and I’m 100% that the LR one is an Exide. £133 plus delivery seems pretty good. So that’s another thing to add to the list of things which might need doing. It’s not showing any signs of problems at the moment but at over 5 years old the current battery has done good service and is probably only got a little life left.

I can’t check if I’ve got the cap or the aux battery, I’m presuming the battery but 🤷‍♂️, if so it will be 9 years old now as I’ve never changed it……. So once it’s back from the stealer I will have a poke about and see what I have!

Also just treated myself to a NOCO GBX55 booster, they seem to be well regarded and so much easier to pack in the boot than the Clark pack I have at work….

I think the keeping it side has won the argument…..

I’ve been googling to find out if I can get a CarPlay adapter for my car, keeping the original screen to it looks totally stock, and they do exist. Quite a few exist aparently. I’ve sent an email to a company in Dawlish who do one and will see what they say about compatibility and ease of install. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had an email back from unique auto developments about the car play adapter and it will work with mine. So I’ve put one on order Thumbs Up

Once it arrives I’ll give it a whirl and see how it performs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Word of warning on the GBX packs - give it a charge occasionally as if the battery depletes over time the BMS kicks in and won't allow you to charge it, it's a known problem that Noco seem to be ignoring. I recently bought a 'dead' GBX 75 from Ebay for £50 and fixed it, as it had this exact problem. There is a fairly simple fix if it shuts down - widely shared on youtube.

If it does fail, Noco are quite generous with warranty and let you keep the old unit after you confirm you cut the leads off it and disposed of it, you never know, you may end up with 2 booster packs.

Don't ask me how many I have Laughing L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Interesting. I wonder if it just affects the GBX or if the GB ones are also affected in the same way. Not to tricky a fix if it breaks by the look of it. Just needs a low charge putting on the + and direct - on the battery. I’m sure I’ve got a low wattage power supply somewhere in a drawer I could do that with.

In theory, so long as the battery remains topped up on a regular basis then it should be ok. I’ve set a reminder to charge it every 3 months. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The Shiney has come back from the dealer, serviced and has the EGT done under warranty. For info it shows 0.7h of labour for the job on the ticket. So its was about a £200 job with the part for the warranty company.

Also and more excitingly the UAD car play adapter has arrived! So that’s a job for the weekend……and my replacement tow socket has come…

The tank shield is still on back order so they are getting that in as and when.

New batteries on order from Tanya. 1 x EK960 (updated 950) and 1 x EK720 (updated 700).

Mechanically that leaves bushes and cooler gaskets….I have spoken to our local LR Indy Alan Smith Garages and they are happy to take a look at the cooler gaskets and ARB bushes to see if they need doing or if they are ok. Bushes will be £200. 🫤 but better than the £700 LR quoted. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

When I needed a fuel tank shield I asked Duckworths and they said it had been on back order for months and would likely never become available again...

Maybe yours is different to the earlier one but worth checking if you will ever see one... Thumbs Up Pete

I ordered a Fuel tank guard for my SDV6 L494 begining of October and it was on backorder, but turned up on 29 October, so it would seem that they are still being produced.

There are several variations of the guard dependent upon fuel tank size/Adblue etc, the one I ordered was Part No. LR045366. As far as I am aware they are the same part between 494/405 models.

Don't know if this help!

The GB models suffer from a different problem, that certainly isn't an easy fix!!

As you say the GBX is an easy fix, I've got an avalanche backpack which is LiIon and suffers the same issue. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Fattie has had the first few jobs done today.

I’ve fitted the UAD car play and as a rough install it was pretty easy and there is a vid on you tube of how to do it. Couple of little points in the destructions which went quite right in terms of routing. But it’s in now and working. Initial impressions are pretty good, given the limitations of the screen.

So the plus points. It works, you lose the onboard nav, but gain on screen google maps. Sound is fine.

Slight down sides, it works on the aux input for audio so you don’t get steering wheel skip buttons, volume obvs works. Not a big down side as Siri works on the screen and can select tracks, skip tracks etc. also can change tracks on the screen.
Also you have to route the 3.5mm cable into the centre cubby aux socket. I’m working on a solution for this.i have a 3.5mm socket to screw connectors so if o can find the right wires from the usb/3.5mm/lighter module I can tap them and add the socket. Then I can plug in under the centre cubby.

I have also replaced the 13pin towing socket on the car for another westfalia one, 15min job, moderate swearing and fiddly, but not complicated once you figure how to split the connectors!

Last Job for the day was to pull the spare wheel out and do both the batteries. 2 new AGM batteries fitted. EK960 and EK720 Exide AGM from Tanya. I then used my autel to reset the BMS.

All before lunch. them had a run out to Shropshire to have a look at a replacement D4 commercial at a small trader. Nice motor. But it’s a toss up between a late D4 and a much newer D5 commercial. As a builders van a D5 Might be a bit too shiney!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I remembered the other morning that back in Nov I had had a call, while I was busy with something, from LR experience in Rockingham saying I had an unused voucher……

I promptly forgot about the call until Friday! Got on the phone to the venue and they found the voucher from 5 years ago when I bought the 405. Which aparently I hadn’t used!

All booked in for March. And I can take my lad who can also have a go! Brill free unexpected Xmas pressie There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

New New Shiney…..Kind of.

So after much deliberation I decided to keep the 405, but that itch for something new and the fact we are juggling some work vehicles about has forced me into a decision.

The D4 is moving on to a colleague, his Ranger is going for sale, and I’ve gone and purchased something new for me.

So as to stay on message….. it’s a D5 Commercial D300 SE MHEV on a 21.

Black with black and black wheels (which may have to be swapped as they aren’t my cup of tea), a deplorable tow bar and a set of roof rails. Spec is enough for work, the only things is missing from ideal are a low range box, which I don’t really use much anyway, and an FBH but it has remote start instead (aparently) so I can preheat it anyway on the odd occasion it’s frosty.

Will post a few pics when I get it as it’s been taken off the dealers site now I’ve agreed!

In other News….. the D4 💩 the bed and dropped to the bump stops. Sounds like a new compressor so that’s off the road for a few days and I’m driving around in our white van man van…. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I do love predictive text....

"deplorable tow bar"

Exactly how bad is it.... Bow down Rolling with laughter

Glad you have a new toy to play with and I think the same about black wheels... Pete
