Cause I cant seem to find it in the app

Currently going through all the calipers giving them a clean, pads, new rear pistons etc, and whilst they've been off, I've just let the fluid drip out the hose into a catch bucket, so a reasonable amount came out.

Whilst I'll follow the brake bleed process as per the workshop manual, I'm asking myself whether I should be purging the ABS unit, and that normally needs a command to make the pump run. I dont see the option in the iidtool app when connected, so just wondering whether its my app, or if its just not there as a function at all ? V8 or else ...

The GAP tool does have the ABS bleed function and I think it is under the ‘Service/Test’ menu. However it will not work on my car, I just get an error message. I have emailed GAP about it but still not had a solution.

You shouldn’t need to use the ABS bleed procedure unless you have changed the master cylinder or ABS unit. Standard bleeding can be done in the usual way.

There are also two bleed nipples under the bonnet - I bled from these also and have a very good pedal and fantastic break feel.

Hmm, I'll try and update mine, but it doesnt show that option in the service menu. That said, I did have the beta-version of the firmware to unlock a few other features, and maybe the bleed procedure isn't part of that version.

That said, I've done a manual bleed this morning and the pedal feel is so much better than before when parked up, so hopefully i'll not need any iidtool stuff. V8 or else ...

After replacing all 4 brake hoses on my TDV6 and pressure bleeding in the usual sequence, I just couldn’t get a good hard pedal no matter what, I had to take it to my local indy & they had to run the ABS pump using LR Pathfinder, even then it took them a few attempts, so be prepared.
In my defence, I didn’t have my GAP tool then

The bleed nipples under the bonnet on a RHD are in front of the RHS strut mount casting. Its a black metal box with pipes running into the back of it, and another 2 downwards underneath it. The 2 bleed nipples face directly forwards horizontally. Bleeding these definitely made a difference.

I would say that whilst my brakes are good ( no squish ) I have in my mind they should feel a little bit more positive that then do at the moment. I don't have any lost squish of travel per-se, but I feel they should ramp up in firmness a little quicker. V8 or else ...

After replacing the flexy brake hoses my pedal felt a bit spongy. Of course I started to question myself if it was like that before I did the work and couldn't be sure. I bled them umpteen times using a pressure bleeder and they're still the same. The brakes work perfectly but a soft pedal compared to my other car (P38)
I've been told that the L405 has intentionally got a 'soft pedal' for more progressive braking. A year down the line and I'm used to it now.😐

i take it the engine bay bleed nipples are the last ones to be bleed ?

I would do them first personally to purge any air out at the top end from the outset of the procedure ... can do them at the end as well ... no harm !

I'd say though that they are a 2 person job though as I noticed that on the up-stroke of the pedal, they drew back the fluid quite hard ... so you really want a open bleed, pedal down, close bleed, pedal up method, which takes 2 to do. V8 or else ...

I’d read somewhere that it’s best to pressure bleed them AND have a mate pump the pedal to get absolute maximum flow of fluid to purge the air out, -anyone done that? (with the ABS pump running?)

It’s not all just about getting air out, it’s equally as much getting all the old water-absorbed brake fuel out, to prevent internal corrosion. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I’ve got 4ltrs of brake fluid so that should be enough ….and the wife thought she didn’t have to do anything

yea been there ..ive just read the wsm ref bleeding the brakes and it recommends 28 pumps per side (rear) and 10 for the fronts my god if i asked the misses to do that many times id have a black eye best get my mate round save any hassle
