My 2012 Westminster TDV8

Hey all, new member and first time FFRR owner here.

I picked up my 4.4 TDV8 Westminster this week, a beautiful Orkney Grey example looking very classic with clear windows all round. It’s on 138k miles but seems to have been very well maintained based on the receipts and condition of the car. My drive home after picking it up was in the dark and rain and what a lovely place it is to weather those conditions. The only downside was I had to listen to Radio 2 the whole way and I kept clicking the red X to go back a screen and was left wondering why the screen kept turning off!

Issues that I’ve spotted so far are: brakes are soft and a little grumbly, the rears are in good condition but the fronts have seen better days so new disks and pads on order; the tyres are a little random with some Admirals on the front and some Roadian Roadstone M+S on the rear; coolant level is low, I’ve got some pink Halfords OAT to fill it which should be ok, I hope; the front left lower wing is out of position, I need to work out how to refit it, maybe when I’ve got the wheel off for the brakes; finally the lower boot creaks a bit when opened, any suggestions on what to grease to smooth that out? It seems to be the retaining cables.

Aside from that, everything else seems to be working. Once I get my phone connected both to the car and the Invery that will solve a few things. Any suggestions on a phone mount and charging solution are gratefully received. I’ve ordered some rust converter and Lanoguard to apply, along with fitting the brakes.

Tomorrow it will get a good clean inside and out and I'm going to see if I can get the wheel nuts undone and work out how to jack the car up. If I get really adventurous I'll apply some Lanoguard.

Looks cracking.

The wing bit is just a plastic bit. If I remember right, there is a little bolt that holds it in the right place. Need to take the side vent off to get to it.

Hi,

Nice car, the plastic trim piece below the wing does have a bolt but not in that position. The bolt (or plastic push rivet) is nearest the wheel and to properly secure it the best way is to remove the wheel arch liner in that area to get proper access. The bit sticking out in your picture should just need a solid push with your hand and it’s meant to clip into the bottom of the vent above.

I’d had similar issues with the parts and ultimately removed it all and it fits fine.

Jon

Thanks both, I'll tackle that when I do the brakes.

Congrats on the new Westie in the best colour! Whistle

The red X is for turning off the screen, not for going back! Get yourself some decent tyres and that will make a big difference. If you're doing anything off road, General Grabber AT3's are a good choice. Lower front plastic trim is a common issue which I've lived with on two TDV8's. Lower boot cables can be easily replaced and worthwhile doing it before they corrode through and snap at an inopportune moment!

Enjoy! Thumbs Up
