Hello all, looking for advice ; new to me 2011 4.4 tdv8, dropped approx 8 litres out of the drain tube( couldn’t loosen the turbo drain plug) , put in 8.5, idled for 10 mins then left for 15 mins, Reading underfilled, repeated the idle/settle twice, still telling me undergilled.
Check on Rimmer Bros , tells me 9.5 litre capacity so topped up to 9.5, idled, rested twice more, left overnight, still telling me underfilled.
I’ve got a suction pump coming tomorrow, should I just drain from above then re-fill to try again?
Or have I got a faulty sensor?

Maybe a silly question, but are you on level ground? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Put another litre in and if it still doesn't show on the display drain it all and fill with 9.5 L and look at getting the level sensor replaced. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks Jaygee : I only have a half litre left but I thought I might throw that in and see what happens : worst case scenario I’ll pump it back out and order a sensor.
Wouldn’t 10 litres be excessive in any event?
Particularly since I couldn’t get the turbo drain plug undone

10L won't do any harm. I've had 10L out when I drained it from cold ( took a long time mind) . It's not crucial to get the turbo drain plug undone. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I am not sure 10 litres is wise.
Anything over 8.5 litres of new cold oil on mine gives the following warning once it’s up to normal running temperature.

The good news though is that changing the sensor on an L322 is relatively easy because it mounts under the sump, as opposed to the L405 being inside the sump.

I’m pretty sure it is the sensor-now not giving a reading , so I’ll order one and extract 1.5 litres , hopefully that’ll resolve matters.

By the “book”, the service refill is 9.5 litres

This gives me an overfill

So when i drain, i put 9 back in. Some prefer 8.5 and then top up to desired level
When i vacuum extract, i put back in what i took out

Not sure how accurate the guage is so maybe best to put in the recommened amount and ignore any over fill on the readout 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
