I’m in the middle of this job and changing the cooler. Some bolts have been stubborn. The bolt holding oil feed pipe at the rear of the cooler is seized. I’m going to cut it off as I have a new cooler. Any idea on part number or where to get it? Or just put any old bolt in there?

Thanks

The bolt is M6 x 12mm, the same as used to hold the nearby pipe brackets.

I also have oil on the right side of the engine and burned oil smell.
Turbo feed pipe looks quite dry, couldn’t make a better picture.
Ordered new o rings anyway.
On the top, around the right corner of the plenum, I see some oil. Just drained my whole coolant and i dont see any oil contamination.
I hope its visible in the photos.
If there is no oil in coolant, could it still be the oil cooler gaskets? Last time i changed oil, there was no coolant in the oil either.
What else can leak from this area?

I took out the plenum to have a look at the oil cooler and I dont see any leaks there and it looks like someone has been there before.

There are two bolts on the oil cooler which are different than the rest, looks like they lost the originals and just put some other ones (unfortunately not visible on the pic)
Can anyone confirm that if the oil cooler is original or replaced?

Right rear pipe on the plenum was leaking I guess. It is all oily and lots of sooth on that corner.

I am not sure if I should touch the oil cooler even though I have the new gaskets already.

How much oil are you using? It’s not uncommon for v8 to leak around the cam covers. I have a v8 merc and they are notorious for it. I tied to fix mine and only one side worked. It hardly uses any oil so I live with it. The only annoying thing is the burning when oil falls on the exhaust manifold.

Good luck 👍

Hi Richie,

You mean these gaskets could be the problem?

Yes, I’m not saying it is that leaking on yours but it is a common leak on v8’s and usually ends up burning on the manifolds.

Worth investigating. But I would also monitor your oil usage. If you’re not using a lot I would not worry too much and just keep monitoring it. Do you get drops of oil underneath the car?

I think mine is leaking on the RH side.
Oil is going all the way down but I dont have drops on the drive way yet.
If I see it correctly from manual, the Injectors need to come out before the cover can be removed.
I dont think I can do it on my own. If it worsens I will take it to a shop.
Thank you Richie! 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

No problem. You may be correct, perhaps in the meantime get a quote.

If there are no drips on the driveway the leak cannot be too bad. As I say, if it were me I would establish how much is being used. On my merc it’s maybe 500 ml per 1,000 miles and I can live with that.

Yes, I saw that 3.6 video and got happy as he didn’t have to remove injectors.
Looking into the 4.4 manual killed my happiness 😬
Anyways, will monitor the oil consumption and see if I will take it to a mechanic 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
