Is the damper a real CVD or is it the brand that has a dummy sitting on top of a non-CVD damper? |

I don't remember - it was an aftermarket part. Yeah, the £1700 is for one hour's labour - the rest is the cost of the part. Almost £1300 + VAT! THe garage has said I shouldn't get aftermarket struts because they don't last, but I'd expect them to last more than 1000 miles! I bet they'll have some kind of clause that says no offroading. My car hasn't been offroading, but how do I prove that? |

That seems a mad thing to say no off-roading…. If that’s what they do say. The whole car is designed as an off roader, and you fitted a genuine strut too…..

I've looked at the company's Ts and Cs - they don't specifically mention offroading. But they do say they won't cover the cost of labour to remove and refit a faulty part. |

If the garage supplied the part and it failed in such a short time they should fit a replacement part free of charge - consumer law will be on your side. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

The supplier has said they'll replace the part if they test it and deem it to be faulty, but they won't pay for labour. So I should go after the garage that fitted it to get them to replace it for free?

Please clarify - you bought the strut and gave it to the garage to fit or did you pay the garage to supply and fit the strut? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Well, you know more than you did before this thread started, eg the genuine part is nowhere near what you have been charged, you could have got 2…. And the part should not have failed in that short time, if indeed you are sure it’s actually faulty. Difficult one. I’d still be wanting a proper break down of the £1700 given the parts cost…. Unless we have misunderstood it…

So I'm confused here. Did the garage supply the part? What brand strut was fitted? How much was the part? And the labour? Labour wise, the saving grace is that if the garage have only recently replaced the strut, replacing it again shouldn't take more than half an hour as the fixtures will all be easily removed. Other than the lower bolts into the knuckle which are often seized, there's not much difficulty to the job and on a lift it's dead easy to do - remove top weight, one wiring connector, three nuts at the top, one airline connection, one nut on the ARB droplink, couple of clips to undo, and the two knuckle bolts. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.
