Looking at my photo, does anyone know if the broken connector pipe is the one that joins the filler neck, or is it the one that connects to the metal fuel pipes that go to the engine?

I have a looked at the information kindly put up by Weejock and Richie N but am not sure where the pipe goes to, or which pipe to buy?

This is very difficult to establish on the car without removing a lot of parts.

Joe90 I am not sure that any adhesive would be a permanent fix even if I could do it with glue due to diesel contamination.

It looks to me like you have to remove the tank to gain access to those pipes, that means exhaust system removal and rear propshaft, then drop the tank, it's a huge job for a beginner and there are lots of other bits that will break easily...

Sorry to say it but if I were you I'd get it taken to a garage and chalk it up to experience....

Oh and if your not careful the large rubber gasket on the tank fitting will partially fall off as you screw the big ring on, it then pulls up one side more than the other and gives the symptoms you have, a leak and a spinning tank attachment, this can damage the rings and the tank and unless replaced will nearly always leak... Pete

I also echo Haylands thoughts and it is most definitely going to require the tank to be dropped.

You still need to get the unit out the tank and reseat it and the gasket correctly if it's not too badly damaged... Pete

I think it is the fuel pressure pipe too, looking at the thread you pointed out.

I suspect the way forward is to try and repair the pipe with a new connector. I assume the link is for the Norma repair kit. I am wondering if I could cut the pipe and repair it with a new connector. The cost to drop the tank, etc would probably be into thousands and I really cant do that right now, also I don't know anybody that I could trust to do it as it my first Range Rover that I've only had a few weeks.

Yes, I agree, I would look at a repair first. I would contact the company and confirm that the connector will fit. And go from there.

Is there no way to reattach the cap properly?

The ring is very tight and I cannot now remove it because the whole cap moves with it.
I will sort the pipe first (hopefully) and worry about that afterwards

I have managed to source a couple of connectors.
The plan is to remove to old connector from the pipe.
Rather than cut the pipe to remove the wire ld one, is it possible to remove the old connector with some heat from a hairdryer or are they hammered in too hard?

After a breather and some thinking the answer to my predicament was straightforward.
I could not source the exact connector to match the original anywhere, however I managed to find this on Amazon £7.49






The male connector is very similar and the same diameter. I also bought some 7 and 8 mm rubber petrol pipe.

I asked on here what the fuel pressure is and found it to be 0.5 bar, around 7psi from the pump in the tank, It then runs to a secondary pump which increases it to 5.5 bar. So it is under very little pressure.

The connecters that I bought required a small modification in removing the secondary larger ring in the picture with some side cutters and a file.

The broken connector had around half an inch (old school) intact. So I managed to connect the rubber fuel pipe onto the broken connector and the other end to the new male connector, securing with small jubilee clips. The rubber pipe is around 1.5 inches long and 7mm internal diameter.

Anyway we are up and running again all good, and just wanted to document this repair in case anyone else is as stupid as me and breaks a connector.
