Hello, a couple of weeks ago my front blowers stopped working (all lights and controls working fine). I read around a fair few threads and just replaced the Final Stage Resistor with a £30 aftermarket one...

It worked fine for about 10 minutes, then must have burned out as the fans came on maximum even with HVAC turned off, and then stayed on after I turned off the car.

Strangely, I put the old one back in and it it worked normally again.

I suspect there is something up with the blower unit, as it occasionally makes a little bit of noise. and a loudish droney noise if I turn it onto maximum.

Does anyone have any tips on next steps? Ideally wanted to avoid stripping down the whole dashboard , but has anyone had a similar scenario and successfully cleaned up contacts or anything? Or is a replacement blower unit inevitable

Hi, lots of info on site. Normally a motor problem. There is a really good descriptive procedure on here, it may be in WIKI. For the cost of a motor, I'd just replace. I believe there is a BMW alternative at decent prices

Cheers guys, yes cheap though I think it will take me significantly longer than 5 hours!

Will get a part ordered, hopefully it will last until the days get a little longer !

When this happened to mine there was also a need to free up and lubricate the moving parts that direct where the heated air goes, sorry to be so non-technical in the description. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks CS, the duct actuators(?) seem to be working fine at the moment, however while I am in there it sounds a great idea to lubricate as well. What did you use, silicone grease?
