Wow! I just ran the AT price tracker on the car I’m buying. It was listed at £23,999 in June 2023, and then reduced to £18,999 in December - a 21% decrease 😳

It is definitely a buyers market.

I think L322s are still higher than when I originally looked a few years ago...

Perhaps the Clarkson/Harry effect?

It's very difficult to find a late 2012 TDV8 4.4 Diesel L322 with less than 120,000 miles, prices seem to be very firm around 10k to 15k depending on quality, the TDV8's I've test driven that are priced below 10k are in the main very poorly looked after and need thousands spent on them to get them to a point where they are reliable enough to have as a daily driver !

It’s a buyers market as long as you don’t try and PX another RR.
I was offered £17.5k for my 17 Plate Sport against a 19 Plate Full Fat P400e Vogue se priced at £42k
Both on similar mileage. Whilst the Full Fat is the better car and 2 years younger I thought £24.5k was a ridiculous cost to change.

How are they selling anything offering deals like that Thud

Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Hi,

I sat in a 405 AB the other day and was quite stunned by the exquisite materials and the build quality, I not actually been in one before. Everything looks and feels like it's the best that it can possibly be.

It's lost a lot of it's charm for me though from the L322. It's much more Saville Row vs. Barbour & Hunter, like it's moved out of the country manor into the Chelsea High Street.

Don't get me wrong, I don't regret the loss of the cassette deck, I do like all of the toys in my Westie with a button for everything, but I'm not a big fan of the "glass cockpit" and searching through menus to find something.

I like the chunky Tonka Truck vs the iCar. Just me at my point in life I guess. Couple of years time I may move to a new more modern model.

But for now I'll stick with my brick, but I do understand why people rave over the 405, particularly the AB.

Mrs JW911 has just acquired a Jag F-Pace. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice enough car but to me it’s neither one thing nor another. A friend has a Jag XF, which is much more like it.

It has car-like suspension but as you sit around a foot higher than the centre of rotation, you end up being thrown around more than you would in a car. The suspension needs to be a bit more compliant. That’s the S in SUV I suppose. It could also do with at least two more cylinders (2.0T badged as a 25t - 240bhp). It’s quicker than the Freelander it replaced but then so are glaciers. Everything else seems to be touchscreen based, which is a bit of a faff. Especially for stuff like heated seats. In every way I prefer the L322, even though it was designed some fifteen years earlier. Our 2014 BMW also does pretty much everything better.

Is a 405 or even a 460 for me?

PS: Thanks, Dr Rob. The Lightweight is in the process of being recommissioned. It isn’t being restored as such, just brought up to a decent basic standard (pub, tip, picnic car) which I can then sort out. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

Just to add a further experience to this, my own L322 appears to have dropped in value like a stone recently (or I overpaid to start with!)

I've owned it since November 22, so around 1 1/2 years, 2011 TDV8 Vogue. Paid roughly £13k at the time, was a solid example in a colour I wanted (Baltic Blue) at around 89000 miles. This was from an independent LR dealership.

Insurance hasn't been too horrendous, went up around £60 this year I think and to date the car has been pretty reliable by L322 standards.

Anyway it's now at around 105000 miles and in need of some bushes doing underneath, and due to a upcoming increase in work mileage I was idly looking around with half a thought of changing it - and then started getting trade-in quotes around the £4-5k mark! So even allowing for an extra £1-2k for a non-trade value that's still a fairly hefty depreciation drop for a car of this age it seems.

As has been mentioned elsewhere in the thread autotrader values seem to be all over the place at the moment.
