The turbo drain mod is definitely a big garage job and >£1,000. There's some evidence now to suggest the solution is actually a replacement vacuum pump, and not the drain mod.

In terms of the oil leak, maybe worth cleaning up and then looking again for where it's coming from? There's not much else behind other than the fuel rails, EGR and oil cooler and the rocker covers. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks again for replying, is the oil drain modification the 2 returns back to the sump from the turbo? If it is mine has already been done. I've cleaned the engine several time but can't find anything whilst at stand still, it only happens when being driven so difficult to locate.

Just an heads up on where to buy alternate"O" rings unless you want to buy genuine at exorbitant prices.
Cat part number 464-0509 which is 1.78 mm section and 9.25 mm id Viton. $7 Australian each.

I've just bought another 4 BS611 V75 from my local bearing supplier, having become aware that Viton 90 doesn't have the high temperature rating of Viton 75. Cost was $5.50 for the 4.

So Yesterday I west to a classic car rally. First blip was the keep fob not working so fixed that. Then got half way to the rally and got low oil warning. Topped up with a litre, let it rest and it didnt register. Topped up with a 2nd litre and it said under filled, fill another 1.5 litres. My heart sank.

So Im on here trying to read 34 pages of seriously helpful information but I may be back to you guys. Going to start by the inspections everyone has discussed and maybe a clean up so I can trace the leak. Hopefully its only the oil pipe but I have no history with the car yet as I am waiting for info to be posted.

Ok guys

So Im about 8-10 pages into this thread, reading all the great info but I took a break and went to the shed to see where my leak might be originating from.

I've 4 photos attached.

Image 1, I'm not sure what this pipe is called so would appreciate the knowledge on that

Image 2. This is my oil pipe and it doesn't look healthy, I've ordered the O-Rings from the UK for that.

Image 3. So I haven't ripped too much but am I right in thinking that's the oil cooler? Its very clean on the top edge but has dirty oil all down the side

Image 4. This is the one that intrigues me. So this is in front of the Oil Filter. its very wet there unlike the other photos (besides 2) that is more dried in oil. I also see red RTV type silicon on a bolt. Can anyone tell me what image 1 and 4 are?

I don't think I am in too much bother but I am de-sanding the engine bay from previous owner and cleaning oil so I can hopefully trace the leak better.

I went looking for mine's very slow coolant leak today with the previously mentioned 18x2.5mm V75 o-rings on hand for the coolant fitting on the oil cooler. It didn't appear to have been leaking but I intended changing the o-ring anyway. However a test fit of the o-ring on the pipe stub revealed that the o-ring was obviously too large.
I measured the pipe stub at 17.80mm.

Has anyone replaced the o-ring with other than one taken from a new fitting and if so, what size did you use please?

Image 1 looks like your EGR inlet. If you stand in front of the car looking to the rear, it will be on the right of the engine under the doughnut.

The flexi pipe under the sheath joins the crossover pipe at the rear of the engine, the pipe in your photo is the other end of the flexi and bolts to the top of the EGR assembly and supplies exhaust gases for recirculation. You might be missing the gasket as it looks very black. Otherwise, maybe an issue with silicon pipes on doughnut. Good luck sourcing your leak! 👍

I`ve got the dreaded oil cooler leak.
Was hoping it would be the O rings on the turbo oil feed, but cleaned everything up, ran the engine, and could see a dribble of oil coming out above.
How much are we looking at for a complete new LR cooler assembly?
might as well replace the whole unit to be sure I think, as I know these can warp, and there is a lot of work to get to it.
Been quoted 570Euros just for the cooler here, plus labour etc!

I completed this job 2 weeks ago and it was quite easy. I got a Nissens oil cooler and filter housing from winparts for €257. It comes with an oil filter so when I did the swap I put in the new filter and ran the oil oil and old system for a week to check for leaks. After that I did a full oil change and new filter.

The worst part of the job is cleaning the intake manafold. That took hours and a lot of brake cleaner. I spent a Saturday at it, took my time and its been going great since. so avoid the €1000 garage bill, instead put that money into the good quality oil cooler, new air filters, oil, oil filter and you will still have a few quid left over. Current yokes

I have a love hate for this company. They often have good value and good parts but they do not communicate very well. So for example I ordered my part on 7/12/23 and it said on the order delivery would be 12/12/23, that's great I thought. Then when I logged into the site a few days later as you do not receive email updates it said "expected shipping" would be 12/12/23. Thinking it would take another week after that to arrive I contacted their CS and they said they had no info and could not help.

Then on 11/12/23 I received an email to said it would be here on the 12th and it did arrive. CS emailed me then last week replying to my mail form the 10/12/12, nearly a full month later and the part installed!

So I recommend them and dont recommend them but I got the part may €100 cheaper than other brands and Nissens are good quality. Current yokes
