Fair enough. Amazon says that these all fit my vehicle. Which one would you choose?

Both do the same job. Its the app that puts the information on to your phone in a visual representation
I only chose the wifi vgate because I already had an BT Autel AP200 that I use for DTC etc

If I had to do it again I would probably choose the Bluetooth Vgate. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Well, well! So i set off early this morning for a long drive to Leeds, with a 70%+ trigger, and as soon as I hit the dual carriageway in about 5 mins or so, the alarm went, status went to 2, and regen percentage up to 100%. Luckily I managed to keep moving all the way to the motorway about 15 mins later where the regen finished, with the regen % dropping to the high teens then 9%.

When it started my oil and exhaust temps were still very low so I'm surprised.

Once finished, the regen % was 9. After driving all the way here with a few passive regens it's 11%

Proof it happened:

I’ve set my Soot trigger alarm at 50%, and if everything else is “right”, i.e. engine oil at least 90C, exhausts at least 250C, tank at least 1/4 full etc etc, one hard sustained boot of the loud pedal say up the motorway slip road, will invoke the regen.
Your results are identical with mine.

I’m wondering, another way to remain in control (no pun intended) would be to drive around town most of the time with hardly any fuel in the tank, then once in a while, fill the tank and hit the motorway for a long blast? “Ghetto method”, get home, siphon all the fuel back out to prevent further failed regens. Just found this thread while searching for help with oil dilution. My Mrs drives the car everyday and a lot of short journeys. Is there an easy way to monitor regeneration? She won’t have a clue with the app running. Any way of an alarm to tell her to keep driving ? Just about ready for the 5th oil and filter change in a year, I only drive it at the weekend at best
Any help appreciated
Dale

Unfortunately the short answer is "no" unless you replicate what we have done here. You could maybe do the same and just check it yourself occasionally and take the vehicle out for a blast when the soot level is 'overdue'?

I've said it before - there is a marked for a plug in OBD device that beeps when regen starts, beeps every minute then long whistle to confirm completed. Plug and play. There's a good market for this and when someone eventually does it I am claiming royalties!!! FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

James, you can get the "Kot Kit" as we have, and just pop out nightly or whatever to check soot level - you don't even have to drive the car, just turn the ignition on. After a week or two, the soot will eventually get close to 50%, then it needs to go for a blast, so at 50% drive slowish to the nearest M-way allowing it to warm up properly, then hit the motorway watching for regen starting and waiting until it's finished, usually about 15-20mins of non-stop driving above about 40mph. The regen indicator will go from "0" to "2" but anyway, you will see the exhaust temp quickly start to climb from 250C to around 650C! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Just one tip:
I find if I leave the vGate plugged in to the OBD port, it will often fail to connect to the phone by either BT or Wifi, so only plug it in each time after turning the ignition on, & remove it after; the vGate instructions say don’t leave it permanently connected, even though it’s power consumption is very low, I suppose it could affect the life of the unit, or increase risk of fire etc if it malfunctions, so best not take chances, if it’s not there, it can’t cause trouble. Having said that, mine has been 100% reliable for about a year now. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yes I unplug mine too, I thought it would go to sleep but stood outside the car several hours after switch off and could still connect and read values. So I disconnected. Weirdly, if left in, it also stops my auto access height activating, you I open the door to get out. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

you can change to miles by selecting sensor properties by going down to Default units and at the bottom select None this selects Default units as miles.

Also its worth upgrading to the Pro version has you get more selections etc and its a few £'s and 1 of these is soot in grams etc maybe also reason why you see meters?

My “distance since last regen” also seems to be in meters, I can’t find default units. I can find units, but there’s no mention of m or “none” (I have the pro version).

Could you please talk me through this?

Thanks very much 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

Go into the Item Editor by tapping twice on the item you wan to edit, i.e. "Average Distance between PF Regens"
Tap "Sensor Properties".
"Default Role" should be selected, under which "Default Units' should be set to 'Miles"
If not, under Redefine Units heading, in the box below should be a list as follows:-
None
meters
km
miles
cm
mm
ft.
inch
