Admittedly Graeme the meter is a very inexpensive one and I am not completely versed in how to interpret it but willing to learn so your wisdom may be needed.

With the meter set to the 200 ohm range (lowest range on the dial)

Touching the probes together gives a reading on the display of 0.05.

Measuring the resistance of the dampers inc wiring to chcm the display shows 03.4 as per my picture.

Hope that helps... what did you think to my other post about the tilt sensor within the battery back up sounder?

0.05 drops 3.4 to 3.35 so no real impact.

With your vehicle's issues I would certainly get the tilt sensor issue rectified before spending any more time on anything else. Fixing it may not resolve any issues but with the way that LR has tied systems together if might just be the culprit. I'm remined of D3s with air suspension lowering to access height for an inoperative stop light having been reported as an ABS fault on the HS canbus triggering the suspension ecu to lower the vehicle to safe height!

I would still be inclined to go for an “ as built ccf reset “
It may or may not show up something of interest !
Would you think this would be of Benefit ?
Obviously you would lose any ccf files you may have already updated Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Ah okay thanks Graeme, thought I might be interpreting it wrong.

So hopefully we can compare these values to your 322.

I've heard that with discoveries before and something about the brake light switch on the brake pedal causing similar, interesting...

Aljo, I'm not sure how to do that? A full reflash of the CCF.

Also turning DSC off doesn't make an appreciable difference in mine.

Just caught up with this thread after answering your PM, Mariana

Something that struck me while reading about your test drive on the 2016 AB is that, apart from adaptive damping, all of these 2010+ diesel cars have active engine mounts, which use vacuum and an electronically controlled solenoid to alter their stiffness from soft at idle to harder above ~1100rpm.

My car, having done over 210k miles now is likely on its original engine mounts and normally you'd expect them to be pretty worn out by now.

I noticed recently on another 2012 Westminster that I was troubleshooting an unlevel ride on (just a height sensor, wish our problem was as easily diagnosed!) that the ~150k mile engine felt and sounded noticeably smoother and more isolated from the interior than mine does, and now I'm wondering if it has to do with these active engine mounts. The solenoid and vacuum piping is located on the front of the engine, which is somewhere I've disturbed a fair bit during successive alternator, pulley and A/C compressor replacements, so could easily have dislodged or damaged some delicate vacuum piping.

Anyway my thought is that perhaps the engine vibration transmitting more strongly into the body might be in some way affecting the adaptive damping system. We know (I think?) that vibration from an unbalanced wheel or out-of-round tyre can cause problems with the adaptive dampers... and the engine mountings are pretty close to the location of the front two accelerometers at the bases of the A-pillars.

Just a thought - but it would tie in with both our experiences of noticeable engine coarseness/vibration. I'm planning to have a weekend troubleshooting mine (and filming a video) soon, taking into account everything else we now know. Like Mariana, this problem has occupied a lot more of my waking (and sleeping!) thoughts than it rightly should, and at this point has turned into a bit of a crusade. The fact that GAP have had complaints from others regarding the same problem confirms to me that this is a real and growing problem with these wonderful ( Laughing ) cars! Sam's Motor & Machine YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgNSRjY0I9FCzsi9ku3ccbw

An out of balance wheel causes the wheel and therefore the height sensor to move up and down similar to a rough surface so the damper control module would take that into account in its algorithims whereas a body vibration wouldn't be moving height sensors.

Right, makes sense. I guess the accelerometers will also have a smoothing filter of some sort applied to their output anyway, so that they're only measuring the roll, heave, pitch etc of the body.

Another tale of woe...

I thought I had make ground breaking progress on this, almost a 'eureka!' moment but sadly it wasn't meant to be.

I'd begun investigating the battery backed sounder for the alarm system as I had a fault code in the BCM for it.

Interestingly looking back at my pictures I found both my previous L322s had this code aswell so it was a commonality between all 3 cars.

My theory was this:

The BBUS unit has a rechargeable internal battery inside which is designed to power it in the event the vehicles 12v battery is disconnect/cut whilst the alarm is sounding.

My old macbook laptop has had 3 new batteries during my ownership and each time the battery failed it would slow the laptops processing speed down to a crawl until I fitted a new one.

So I thought to myself 'I wonder if the internal battery in the BBUS is faulty causing an issue with the systems in the car?'

I had this thought as the BBUS connects to the BCM/GWM (gateway module) via LIN bus.

All the CAN bus connections also run through the GWM.

When trying to lock the car with a door adjar the BBUS should emit two beep tones to warn you a door isn't shut however mine didn't so its most likely dead.

With all these thoughts in mind when I left work on Wednesday last week I opened the bonnet, reached down by the brake servo and disconnected the 3 pin plug on the BBUS.

Driving away a definite improvement in ride quality was evident, it felt like I'd let 3 psi out of the tyres!

The car although not 'perfect' for my personal tastes was much more manageable and no longer felt like it smashed through imperfections on the road.

It managed to remain this way for 6 days up until today where it has returned to its old ways sadly proving my theory a bust.

I was that confident that I'd cracked the enigma code that I had a chat with Landymansam and asked him to try this out on his L322 and report back so I could come back to the forum and announce I'd finally figured it out.

I was elated at the thought of having fixed my own car and potentially helping others fix their cars too.

I did have my doubts though as the steering was still too weighty and the ride was still harsher on the first start of the day.

Time to go back to the drawing board once again... Yawn

I'm picking up a friends 2008 3.6 TDV8 next week to do some work on it for him prior to sale.

It will be interesting to see if I'm happy in that car as its so similar to my first one which was the only one I've ever fell in love with.

You can't even begin to imagine the frustration and dissapointment Craig.

Have you never had a customer with this fault come into your business?

Been speaking to a guy via Facebook who had posted about a hard ride on his L322.

Seems he's also suffering with this 'ride curse'

He suggested we start a group chat for those with this problem so that we can share the knowledge.

Anybody interested in that? I'm thinking a WhatsApp group might be easiest.

Send me a PM and I'll get something started. Thumbs Up
