Hi David,

I've been watching a few videos around the timing chains - I found this guy really good especially with the tools and parts you need to do it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isq7kPpLD_g&t=896s

Well, I’ve not updated this thread for a while. Primarily because the car still hasn’t moved!

I did however have a trip to Gloucester to collect the parcel shelf for the car from Cam Tech Craig.

As you can see it’s an ivory shelf in a car with a black interior so I need to make a final decision on how we’re going to refinish it.

You can see the 2 spring loaded flaps on the back of the parcel shelf that allow the rear seats to recline.

The first of 2 deliveries from Duckworth Land Rover also arrived today.

Some of the parts I’d ordered from Land Rover were on back order. Duckworth parts checked them against Jaguar parts and found that the part numbers cross referenced perfectly and all the Jaguar boxed stuff was in stock so it’s all been ordered and it’ll be here on Thursday Smile

Once that has arrived then in theory we’re ready to start strip down!

Looking forwards to reading more on this thread Sir Bow down

On your other thread about the parcel shelf I posted a comment agreeing with having the item upholstered in leather to match the rest of the interior, especially with the lovely interior in the car. Now having looked at the photo of the shelf installed, to me it does not 'look right' at all, having it upholstered in matching leather would be expensive but would tie in with the rest of the car and look perfect Thumbs Up It would complete that luxury look and feel.

And we’re off!

Fan shroud, fan and belts all removed and out of the way.

I noticed as I opened the bonnet after putting it on the ramp tonight that I could smell coolant. When stripping it down the bearings in the water pump are knackered.

The coupler on the Supercharger is also knackered.

The bearings in the pulleys all seem good on this one so far too.

More progress tomorrow evening hopefully Smile

Spent 6 hours on the car today… All I’ve got left to do now is remove the crank pulley and time it up. I’ll hopefully get the tools to do that this week.

This is how we started today:

The high pressure fuel pipe crossing the Supercharger along with the rest of the coolant pipes were then removed. 2 of the bolts were much longer than the others so I left them in for the below picture.

The Supercharger was then removed and the slide hammer to remove the injectors was unboxed!

You can tell the 5.0 is Direct Injection! The back of the valves on my 4.2 were spotlessly clean!

I didn’t reference the manual on strip down so I wasn’t sure which one was Bank A and which was Bank B. Wiggling the timing chains made everything become clear!

This was the first bank I took the covers off:

Then I took the covers off the other side!

Given the car was flagging a fault with Bank A, it’s fairly clear which one is which! Must say I’m slightly relieved that nothing happened on the journey home from London having seen that! 😳

This is how it looks tonight now:

I’m getting a loan of the tools to remove the crank pulley and to time it all up this week so until that arrives I can’t do much more now!

Turns out deployable side steps are actually quite handy!

Interestingly, the coolant pipes that were plastic on my XFR are actually aluminium on the Range Rover! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I did strip the Supercharger down today… it’s a mess!

The spring in the coupler has been totally knackered for quite a while by the looks of it and its chewed grooves in the shaft!

You need a special puller to dismantle the TVS supercharger on the 5.0, I could make one but in the interests of saving time I’m tempted to send it off to Powerhouse Automotive and have them rebuild it whilst I do the rest of the stuff on the car.

Coming along quite nicely mate. Surprised how only one chain has slacked so much and the other appears in good condition.

Do love reading your threads mate.

Thanks Allen.

Just ordered a load more parts from Duckworth’s today as I want to replace most of the hard plastic bits of the cooling system whilst it’s in bits.

The Supercharger I think I’m going to send to Powerhouse this time around rather then doing myself as you need a special puller to get into the 5.0 one. They also vapour blast it when they have it so it’ll come back nice and clean.

Finally, I’m just debating having the injectors overhauled whilst they’re out of the car.

Thanks guys Smile

Made a start cleaning the carbon off the back of the inlet valves tonight.

Covered everything up before starting.

Then started with a wire brush in the drill.

The wire brush I bought is a bit aggressive so I’ve ordered some brass ones tonight. Will have another go tomorrow. I’ve also ordered some smaller ones that’ll fit behind the valves to give everything a good scrub.
