Many thanks for your reply. Looks as though I'll be spending time under the car this weekend Sad If you don't know what you're doing - do it quickly!

I unplugged the multiplug to the rear diff, the rear diff temperature sender, and the handbrake module and then removed the rear left wheel to access the wiring loom through the wheel arch.

With those 3 things disconnected, you can get enough slack on the loom to pull enough of it into the arch to look at it. Mine was immediately apparent as there was a green blob on the wiring loom.

It's the first job I've done on this car that I've not documented with photographs I'm afraid.

What does U3000-4B entail? Description says control module but no clue on how to approach.

Hi David
I know you said you didn't get any pictures
but could you point me to the location of the connector pls
The WM doesn't show the wiring.
Reckon I have the same as you.
MOT due very soon so I need to jump on this.

 Cheers, Greg

My car had the electronic locking diff so it had a multiplug on the motor and the temperature sensor. They’re tucked up out of the way, however, if you’ve not got the locking diff you’ll not have them.

Unplugging these allowed me enough slack in the loom to pull it into the rear wheel arch with the wheel off.

It then became very apparent there was corrosion as you could see the swelling in the loom.

What fault code are you getting?

There’s someone on the Facebook group who had a similar issue recently and it turned out to be his switch.

Mine is a standard diff so I just need to find my connector.

Just hoping to get a steer where to look. Up around the EPB module I guess?

The handbrake module lives on top of the subframe. The connector into that module is on the NS of the car on the top of the subframe. It’s an awkward sod to get to.

I bought a spare switch on eBay to try before going into the wiring. It’s still sitting here as a spare somewhere. Do you want me to send it to you so you can rule out the switch before going after the wiring? 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Hey GGDR,

Did you have any luck with this? I've got the exact same error on mine!

Cheers

I removed the rear discs, cleaned up the drums, lubed it all
then found the connector buried in between the subframe and the boot floor, cleaned that adding electrical lube....
and it got better.
but it's still not fixed, still playing up some of the time.

I have bought a new switch in the centre console but I have not gotten around to fitting that. Cheers, Greg
