Thought I'd start me own thread in here

So, driving back from Hemel Hempstead yesterday, had the dreaded bong 'engine system fault' and limp mode occur twice. Pulled over to hard shoulder both times, switched off and back on cleared it. Cursory look at boost hoses revealed nothing untoward so carried on.

Took her a little drive this morning with wife and kids, happened again...thrice...once when on a slip road to motorway gaining speed to merge, only part throttle, again when building up to 70 (half throttle maybe) and again pulling hard up a hill on a back lane (I wanted to see how repeatable the fault was) bumbling around town roads its fine.

Got her home and whipped the RH (as you're sat in car) top intercooler hose off

Yikes! How did I not feel that! Nice easy fix though...checked the LH hose all was well but I'll replace both. Hopefully thats that put to bed...

Both upper hoses had a film of oil, anything to worry about?

RH throttle body, couldn't get decent pic of left side but was slightly cleaner

MAP sensors before and after a quick blast with contact cleaner. I didn't check MAFs as I don't have dedicated MAF cleaner and wasn't sure using the general stuff

Both MAP plugs had this white residue in them, any concern?

Also glued a section of bonnet/scuttle seal back down, checked me towing mirrors fit and checked battery voltage as receipt for the genuine LR battery was from 2019.

I got 12.5v engine off, 13.4 at idle and 13.4 at 2k rpm. I've read all sorts r.e alternator output so not going to panic on that yet.

'Whipped' the battery out...well, it took 10mins to get the 2nd clamp bolt out. Some bellcheese had bent and cross threaded it!

After clean up and recut the threads on bolt and in battery tray

Not pretty but threaded back in ok 👌

The audi is being picked up next week by a trader, it had a new 110ah 920 A (current one in Range is 90ah 850 A) fitted 12months ago and I've still got the old one it replaced.

I never tried charging it at the time so thats on charge now and looks like it should be good enough to go back in, hopefully freeing the good one up for the FF 😁 it is bigger than the current battery, 395x175x190mm approx, tape measure says it will fit, just....

Decent looking car fatty you got there penguin. Most of of what you have said there really is nothing to worry about. The MAF sensors looked good before cleaning them, I've seen worse just like mine was before I had the egrs blanked. 2 years in and they are still very clean. That registration in your car looks very familiar, I'm sure that belonged to someone on here, if so then most of all the preventative maintenance should have already been done. Just enjoy it, I presume it's got lots of service history. Oh and pics are always very good, you can never have too many.

Yeah, fair amount of history with her, hopefully it was a forum members before p.o and they pick up on it on here! That plates been on donkeys years according to paperwork.

Thanks for the reassuring words, I do plan on just using it and enjoying rather than looking for faults everywhere. Guilty of that with previous LR's...you end up doin your own head in!

Do want to do egr delete though, I'll have a search on here

Hopefully with a bit of luck your egrs may already have been blanked off. If not, it's a very easy job to do, I did my own just after I bought mine.
That's exactly what I do now, just drive it and worry about it when something crops up. Having a bit of a worry with mine at the moment, I've got a slight squeal under acceleration only under acceleration not when I'm cruising along. Hopefully I'll get it booked in at the indy's this week. Sneaky suspicion it's the exhaust manifold, but worse case a turbo. Hopefully nothing to serious though as I'm going to to the Scottish Highlands in 4 weeks time for holiday.
Cool you not far from me, though for how much longer I don't know as I might be moving to South Wales or Bristol way.

New RH intercooler hose fitted today I've left the other one, it looks fairly new tbf but bought a pair so got a spare LH in the boot now.

The audi's old battery took a charge so thats back in freeing the fairly new big varta for the FF

Scabby battery tray needed attention while I gave the battery a quick top up charge

After wire brush, rust converter and couple of coats of hammerite i had knocking about

(I did bolt that other clamp in!)

Took a bit of persuasion but its a good fit, car started well after nearly 2 days with battery off, did feel a bit lumpy on idle and had 'special programs unavailable' flash up but soon cleared up.

Went a little test drive, no engine system fault, smoke or what have ya

gave it some stick once upto temp in all sorts of scenarios so looking good. All programs can be selected and suspension works as it should.

Ordered a headlight renewal kit today, need to get tyre balances checked though as when I'm doing 60-70 there's a slight constant judder. Can't really feel it thru the wheel but more thru the seat. More of a vibration really. Hoping tyre balances rather than prop but I'll start with the basics...

Got the towbar armature fitted today, excuse the white sealant it was left over from the caravan

I'm not using the electrics in the kit, I'm getting a pro to fit 13pin with proper module and towing mode switched on

Bumpers still off, got to repair one of the clips broken by previous removal

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Fixed a previous bodge with a slightly better one

Thought the wet patch on the drive was a/c condensation. Got off my arse when I noticed coolant had dropped and here's the culprit.

Yeah nice one 👌🏻

Its the U shaped hose comes off the bottom of expansion tank. Guessing it wore thru and got fantastically bodged.

Quick Google and call to LR revealed it only comes as part of that larger assembly circled. £450 from LR and about £250 from European parts suppliers. **** that ses I...

Pirtek Wolverhampton, length of 19mmID hose, a coupling and few jubilee clips for 13 quid.

So thats the idea. Same as the last bodge really just a bit more disassembly and care taken...

Bled system as per workshop manual for expansion tank removal and refitting, heres the join with engine running

I supported the longer length with a couple of cable ties to keep the join square, one of those things I'll check neurotically for the next few weeks 😅

Definitely blank both EGR valves on a 3.6 with a simple kit off eBay etc
It might need them mapping out via a plug in if you get an EML on the dashboard. Loads of places that can do that or get Bodsy over I would. He can also Megaflush the gearbox and change all the other oils. He’s a legend Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Absolutely, already got an empire tuning egr kit ready! I've got a gearbox oil leak, all around the pan by the looks of it. The plug connector seal above looks OK....does bodsy do the pan and filter changes as well or just mega flush? Diff an trans case oils are on the list but thats diy for me. I can do the gearbox pan but not sure if icarsoft lr2 will read temp for refilling?? Also need new prop as centre bearing failing and I tow so might as well throw a new genuine one on. Its up in the air at the minute whether I do prop and gearbox service myself or try and get it in the local indy but they're booked out solid....

Make sure you replace the UV protection or the Plastic lens will deteriorate 10x quicker than last time sir...

Cant quite bring myself to do the headlights while the prop centre bearings flapping in the wind and gearbox is enthusiastically marking its territory 🤣🤣
