Kristoff, I have put a hard wired connection to the battery like yours. I haven’t yet got it without lifting the bonnet. How have you secured the socket to the grill and do you find the Ctek end cap sufficient to prevent moisture ingress? John

I just used a simple cable tie, you can't actually see it, I've pulled it down a bit to take this pic for you. The connector itself tucks up behind the gille so you can't actually see it normally.

So far so good on the end cap staying water tight. It's what its designed to do and plenty of people with various cars have these mounted in the upper or lower grille, so hopefully it should be ok.

My only tip is, since you have to cut the cable to extend it anyway, pass through both ends of the cable first and then join it on the car, then you don’t have to remove any trim. I fitted a 15amp fuse on the live cable right next to the battery terminal, so if it ever does chafe through and short, no fire will occur.

I did much the same on my L405, I used a bicycle outer gear cable and a bit of duct tape to “fish” the wire through from the grille to under the bonnet. I regularly add a smear of silicone grease to the plug after giving it a clean, it helps the cover to pop on more easily. Thumbs Up
