2012 TDV8 Disconnect battery to trickle charge?

It has been 8 weeks since I used the RR and not surprisingly the battery is struggling to crank the motor into life.

I have an Absar AGM trickle charger but I am unsure wether battery disconnection is necessary for trickle charging. I see the official LR advice is disconnection and removal but I assume this is for charging at high amps.

I have seen posts describing charging through the tow bar socket which sounds like a good idea, however I don’t have a link cable yet, but this should be easy enough to make up for the future.

But for now can I connect direct to the battery without disconnecting the battery?

yes, I use a CTEK MXS 5 and put it on when I am away for a week or so, it is peace of mind for me, but I am lucky in that the power socket is very close to my engine bay when I park at home

I use a Ctek via my 13 pin tow socket using an adaptor I purchased from the forum shop.
Easy way to top up battery.
Currently unavailable from forum shop Big Cry Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Many thanks for the replies, makes the job that much easier if battery disconnection is not necessary.

I am going to look into making up a link lead to charge via the tow electric socket, it must be straight forward - just the permanent +/- pins to identify. Kevin

I attach a CTEK to the white towing socket with the adapter that was in the site shop.

No issues over the years.

On a 13 pin plug 3, 11 and 13 are earths, pin 9 is permanent live.

Plenty of diagrams if you Google it, I made one with a 13 pin trailer socket into a connection box screwed to a piece of wood, just clip charger on or multi gauge if I want to see battery condition 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

200 TDi discovery bobtail gone
RR classic v8 bobtail gone
300 tdi Discovery 3 dr gone

I need to put some charge into the battery (4.4 TDV8 2012) as it’s come up with engine error
Looking at the battery in situ it’s not easy to see the terminals in where the battery sits.
What do others do when needing to charge? I have a cetek mx7

I have permanently wired a Ctek socket lead to the rear fusebox and just thread it through the lower tailgate corner so it isn’t trapped when I close the tailgate, then I leave the Ctek Sat on the rear bumper ledge, simple.

I install small DEFA Multicharger. Good thing when use Webasto and drive short trips. Just plug in for the night and battery is always full.

I've just fitted a ctek hard wire kit so I can plug in my ctek charger without lifting the hood. Took about 30 mins to do and most of that we extending the ctek wiring as it didn't reach the grill from the battery, no need to remove any parts of the car to run it how I have, not even the grille, you can fish it though with your fingers very easily. Blue line shows the cable run. Ignore the croc clips and block of wood on the battery, I took this photo when I was checking for parasitic draw with my multimeter.
