Thanks David, I've ordered the lubricant, pretty frighteningly expensive for a tube of lube (if I'm imagining it correctly), best part of £50. Well I'd rather do the job properly than save a few pennies. Current: Range Rover L322 4.4tdv8, Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2, BMW 535d Touring, Skoda Fabia, BMW S1000XR

Jesus wept, that is expensive, from my limited knowledge, would I be correct if I thought that something like the below link is the same as the LR product ? This stuff - Red rubber grease - is perfect for use with rubber as in bushes / 'O' rings etc.

The Land Rover stuff is a liquid and is a sort of barley colour.

I used a paint brush to paint it onto my bushes when fitting. There’s still most of the 100ml bottle left after I’d done all 4.

The paint brush I used for mine I didn’t bother to clean and left it on my bench. When I picked it up a day or two later all of the bristles fell out of it so there’s something in that bottle that doesn’t agree with paint brushes!

Bottle says irritant on it too so I used gloves when working with it.

I paid £31.95 for a bottle. I've read somewhere that you have to leave it to cure for 24 hours.

Thank you gents, if it's done that to the paint brush and takes 24 hrs to cure, it is definitely not the same, good warning to wear gloves. When I do mine I will buy the LR stuff. Thumbs Up

I read somewhere about it needing 24hrs too.

It was either on the bottle or the workshop manual. I can't remember which. Once the bushes were in mine I left it on the bench in the workshop for a couple of days whilst rebuilding it before fitting it to the car.

One of the benefits of doing it whilst it was off the car!

As I was in there replaced all the bushes on the rear and yes made quite a difference

good to know, this is now on my list of things to do as mine need replacing as well Big Cry

I have got the Red Rubber Grease for £12 quid already
Granville Red Rubber Grease Brake Caliper Pistons & Hydraulic Systems 500g

just need to get the 4 x subframe bushes now - Meyle say that MEYLE HD-parts are components with enhanced durability.
Compared to OE they were technically improved by reinforcing inner parts, using higher quality materials or modifiying the rubber-to-metal composition.

so they sound like they are superior bushes to me Smile

Rubber grease is for seals that have to maintain some compliance during their service life, the LR sealant, is well, sealant, not lubricant.
The Meyle bushes are designed for BMW, not LR spec. They may well be 'superior' for BMW applications, having seen both LR & BMW bushes first hand, there are differences. I couldn't begin to quantify which are better suited to each application, however, the LR ones appear to have a >10 year lifespan.

I have done this job today on my TDV8 and would like to add that there are two rivets in the subframe for each bush, which I could not remove. Had to use force on the tool to shear off the rivet.
