I got the remap with EGR delete. The DPF will still regen as and when required, but should be much less often with the EGR no longer in use. Interestingly enough, the remap has removed the P040d fault code (EGR temp sensor A) and unsurprisingly the fuel consumption has improved dramatically. The engine note changed too and is much quieter now.

All in all, quite happy with the result.

Few months on, whats your verdict on this?

I had a boost leak that must have been developing for a while (short pipes going into donut) that I sorted and the common fuel sender fault that meant I had to time it right to get the fuel level low enough to fix.

That's all now been done and I've just gone through a full tank of fuel (don't do lot of miles) and got the fuel warning after 560 miles.

I have noticed that fuel consumption is very good most of the time, but does increase significantly for no apparent reason and I can only assume is the dpf regenerating. It does this a lot and I'm starting to consider whether I should have got that mapped out too. I didn't think it should been engaging so often and really thought it would be a rare occurrence. I should note that I created an egr blank and blocked that off in case it was leaking. Cam

I may be late to the party here but I just spoke to my indy, who states that you can program the EGR permanently shut and then program the engine management to completely ignore the EGR. The DPF can be kept as is and should be fine.

Is he wrong? RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

he is right Sir

you can get a remap with EGR delete, and the DPF will still regen when needed, the good news is that this will be much much less less often without EGR !

This is also backed up by the guru himself - Gareth at Empire ( in Colchester ) - down the road from me Smile

Sorry I didn't notice your reply jackie-o.

As just said, yes that is indeed the case. I was postulating my issue with the random higher fuel consumption may have been a separate dpf issue. As it happens this has now stopped happening as I'm seeing very good consumption - my last tank averaged 30.9 mpg... Cam

at the end what is the conclusion?

Will it be possible and make sense to blank the EGR, but leave the DPF on 4.4 TdV8?

thanks

I'm feeling the urge to make my 4.4 TDV8 a better drive, as I find it way too annoying. (yup I bought the wrong car). I'm still unclear if its safe to map out the EGR as part of a remap? Is there any change in emissions with the EGR mapped out, that could affect an MOT aka fail? Also has anyone had a remap and regretted it? Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

I´m wondering the same thing.

With the 3.6 it seems very common but not so with the 4.4?

For me the whole thing started when I asked my indy to clean the manifolds etc as the whole front end was out for an alternator and AC compressor change.

He basically said it was completely pointless to clean anything as long as the EGR was still there and active....

My car has just hit 100.000 miles and I can see us keeping it "forever" and if I can make "forever" longer by keeping the engine cleaner then that is very appealing to me.... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

Well maybe I can add more and clarify this discussion.

So I got the remap and had the EGR mapped out. This removed the very common error P040d fault code - EGR temp sensor A that had been annoying me. I would normally just change the temp sensor, but the job itself is a bit of a horrible one (it's in the left hand exhaust manifold) and I was intending to get the remap anyway so it saved me the job. I suspect my EGR was also sticking open slightly as I was still getting frequent DPF regens , which of course ruins economy, power etc. I also developed a boost fault which turned out to be one of the donut boost pipes. So I removed the donut and replaced all four pipes with new silicon-based piping and whilst the donut was off I took the opportunity to clean it and blank off the EGR (made up a blank from 2mm steel sheet). Since doing that the car is now performing as I'd expect it to with the remap, no more regens so economy is very good overall and the instantaneous mpg shows a great improvement.

TLDR;
So basically, assuming you have no hidden faults as I did, a remap with EGR delete will greatly improve your situation and remove a point of failure for several common faults. Emissions will NOT be affected as the DPF is still very much in use and MOTs are NOT a worry (speaking from experience). Thumbs Up Cam
