Stinking

All, we are currently in the Lake District on our Hols. RR seems to be okay other than the climb up to where we are staying is leaving the ol’ girl stinking once we get to our accommodation. It’s probably a good 2 mile climb up some very narrow windy roads, all at speeds ranging from walking pace to about 20mph max.
The temp gauge seems to stay smack bang in the middle and I’m getting no warning lights on, however it just smells really hot. After having a quick peer under the bonnet nothings seems to be a miss.
My daughters with us in her VW T-Roc and that doesn’t seem to smell at all after the same climb.
Any thoughts?

Try carefully touching each rear wheel, just in case the brake calipers are sticking.

Perhaps I should add it’s a 4.4tdv8.

Mike, both rear wheels are certainly colder than the fronts.

It’s certainly coming from under the bonnet area.

Mine had a tiny leak from the top hose to thermostat housing which led to a very sweet hot smell. No smell since I changed the hose.

Has it had the oil cooler gaskets and o-rings done? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Well after completing the same climb back up to our accommodation this evening I decided to use the flappy paddles to keep the revs down slightly. It seems that the RR likes to hold onto 3rd a little longer than I think it ought too. The result was a much less smelly engine once back at our accommodation. Figure that out…

That seems to make sense. Is it a DIY job or send it off to the Indy?

BTW your car seems to be a 2015 L405? This sub section is for the earlier L322. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
