Pirelli scorpion zero vs verde all season

Still got 4-5mm on my 255/55 R20 Verde but have been looking at the options as they are also DOT marked early 2015 so probably past their best. Never ever skimped on tyres so the options are 4 more of the same or the zero which are a more 'performance' orientated tyre. Looking for safety and comfort in that order - any experiences ?
Also there are the Grabber AT3's but they may be a bit too off road optimised for mainly road use ? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I would not go to AT tyres unless you really need them. The look is subjective, but the increase in noise and the reduced road handling is notable. I only use mine on 20” wheels in Winter with the three peaks symbol but it’s not a patch on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde with noise control that I have on my 22s. They are quiet and refined with great handling. And all season as well. They performed great during super heavy rainfall on my way back from the Netherlands.

As soon as I’ve got my wheels refurbed I put them back on and sell the 20” with AT tyres.

JayGee - looking at the Zeros I have on at the moment they are 255/50 instead of 255/55 - any particular reason why you are looking at 255/55s ?

Depends ultimately on what style of driving your going too do. If your up and down the M1 five days a week then I'd prob just look at a normal suv tyre and not bother with any AT tyre as there's no need too have them but it also depends on where you live. If your in the top of Scotland then that's a harder choice given you'll get snow each year but if your like me and inside Londonz you'll be lucky too see 2mm snow so pretty sure a ffrr with normal road tyres should be able too handle that

I ran 2 L322s at the same time for over 20K miles 1 with AT3s and 1 with Verdes and noticed no difference in noise which did surprise me. The AT3s were a lot quieter than the Cooper weather masters I swapped the verdes for during the winter.
I now only have 1 RR and the verdes are almost shot, I’ll replace these with AT3s.
I suspect the Pirelli’s might give more road grip when hoofing it but that’s not what most of but a RR for.

There is a whopping 4db rating difference between these tyres, I find it hard to believe one cannot notice that? I have both and really do notice it, heck on 22' it should be louder. Then there is energy A and B versus E and C. Again noticeable in rolling resistance. Very odd to not notice that either.

Sure the AT3 win off road, no doubt about it. But otherwise they are a true compromise and bring down the refinement of these fine vehicles...

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season with PCNS is very good with proper LR markings as well. Not all Scorpion/Verdes are the same, so we could be at risk not comparing like for like...

For what it is worth I run Michelin Pilot Sport 255 55 20 in the summer and they are the best performing tyres in wet and dry I have run ( no aquaplaning when I hit standing water in Europe at 100mph +)but a summer tyre and Goodyear Ultragrip Winters on 255 55 19 both sets of wheels and tyres are excellent.

Our perception of tyre noise is influenced by so many factors from the simple things like speed, tyre size, profile, temp, pressure, road surface, wear, weather etc. to the complex things like harmonics that it is almost impossible to make an accurate comparison based on specs alone.
Us humans are very good at letting our ears confirm what our eyes have already "heard" hence my surprise at how quiet the AT3s were given how noisy they "looked".
My previous post was my observation of the comparison of the two tyres, both 255/55 x 20, being driven side by side on an almost daily basis for a considerable distance.
My experience of the AT3s is enough to make me choose them as my next set of tyres, they certainly don't spoil the refinement of the car no matter what the labels say.

Fair enough if you like them enough no problem with that, but you can’t argue against science.

It came with 55's and I like the taller profile for a bit more comfort. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Previous car (Audi A6 Allroad) I ran exclusively on Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical and they were a peerless road tyre with wet grip and very nice handling all-round but as to be expected road was all they did. Due to my job I need to have a bit of off road capability. Snow and Ice less so but all seasons do seem attractive just in case.... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I guess tyre noise ratings are only peak DB and the actual frequency of the noise may vary and it's the frequency that can either drive us mad or not be heard. Still undecided on Zero vs Verde all season.
Verde have 3db more noise and are C vs A rated on rolling resistance so on paper are a better tyre. Also both are less then £200 a corner at National Tyres..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

We have two 2010 L322 4.4 TdV8's, one is fitted with Scorpion Zero, the other with Verde all seasons, both with roughly the same tread depth and tyres are of similar age. The Scorpion Zero is unquestionably the more refined tyre if that's what you want. I can't really tell any other difference. Drives:
