It essentially collapses into the lowest position and won't raise --------

What do you mean by collapse ? Does it fall under gravity if ligted up OR does it power itself down to the lowest setting ? Paul,

It remains at the lowest height, the tilt function no longer operates. --------

There could be various causes - including the complete lift motor OR much simpler, the special nut at the top of the adjustment thread OR the mechanical brackets that hold the mechanism.

3000 British Pounds? They're having a Turkish. An Indy can easily strip the relevant bits of the dash and either sort or tell you what is needed. Worse case it might be the motor, most likely the toggle switch imo. Specialist breakers next step. Good luck with it . ----------------

It hasn't been disconnected, as it has risen during our brief ownership. At the moment, it'll only raise if I 'encourage' it upwards, but will drop again due to the convenience function. I believe that I need the iid tool and software to disable this, which I don't own at present. --------

Without further investigation, there's still plenty of causes & various solutions.

Thank you Pawl. It has deteriorated quite rapidly and as of today is happy to remain in the lowest position, which is actually a little annoying as I cannot see the speedo needle between 50 and 120 or so and also rubs my thighs a little in the raised seating position which I enjoy. --------

You're lucky, when mine first went wrong it lowered itself down & jammed my legs onto the seat Paul,

So what are my options from here? Replace myself or ask a specialist to replace?

What an amusing car. Today the steering wheel raised when asked then lowered again after I had locked and unlocked the car.

I think it's just 3 screws that are accessible from underneath the plastic shroud, then lift the top half upwards & off & you should be able to see maybe 2 electrical connectors to the column motors. 1 is the lift , 1 is the reach. You may need to disconnect each in turn to work out which one is the lift 1 you want to leave disconnected, Paul,

That's super, thanks. I've just seen a video in powerful-uk's youtube channel and there are three torx screws to remove, of which there are two different sized heads.
