On early models, there was a single beige relay behind the main battery.

On later models, there are two relays: one to turn wipers on and off, the other for std speed vs fast speed.

I’m not sure when they changed. My 2002 TD6 had the original location; my 2010 TDV8 has the later location. The workshop manual for the later version is incorrect and still refers to the single relay behind the battery.

On my 2010, wiper relays are outlined in red in the pic below. This waterproof box of electronics, fuses and relays is in the engine compartment on the left as you look at it (on the right from the driver’s seat).

Thanks Steve. I've replaced both the relays now and they still park in random positions. When I tap the motor they try to move - so I've ordered a 2nd hand motor. Thanks again

I've got the same issue with the windscreen wipers parking in the wrong position - was it the motor on yours Simon?

Many thanks

It is almost certainly the motor. Any model year fits and £30 on ebay should find you one (LR new are £250 and 2 months lead time)

Just done mine. Leave the linkages in place and just change out the motor. A bit fiddly but not difficult. Bish.

That's great thank you bishbosh! I grabbed one on Ebay earlier - hopefully it's a good one!

I was a bit thrown by the BMW posts relating to the same issue on the same Valeo motor who had fixed it by replacing the relay but it makes more sense that its the park microswitch in the motor housing...

I've read a tip to mark the linkage position before detaching the old motor - was there anything else you'd recommend? I'm assuming I might need to remove the pollen filter housing but haven't looked closely yet at access to the nuts.

Thanks again for your help

Just done it - 20 mins and the most difficult part was getting the bonnet strut spring back in after putting it in service mode.

Really straightforward job - 10mm and 13mm spanners and marking the correct park position with a piece of masking tape before taking the motor off the spline.

The only other thing that may help others doing this is its a slightly unusual electrical connector. You have to push the white part (sides) backwards into the car to release it.

Thanks again for the tips and advice.
