It sounds very like you have moisture ingress at the rear left wheel arch which is affecting the electonic controls housed in the back left side of the boot. I had intermittent issues with radio and sat-nav for several years before opting to replace the head unit, which didn't sort the problem. The culprit turned-out to be the amplifier in the boot cavity. This was a symptom of a bigger issue which has now become visible corrosion at the rear of the wheel arch. Try pressing CD or radio, then switching off with the main audio button and then switching on again. See if the CD/radio now works.
