Out of curiosity what’s the risk when driving overfilled?

Would you notice any different engine performance?

There is risk especially if you are getting a overfill warning from cold as oil expands as it gets hot. how much over is it?
dont drive far
dont drive hard
remove the oil as soon as you can.

there may be better qualified people who will offer better advise

Tip for getting oil level to work

leave the bonnet up
when you get the message telling you to wait hit the cruise cancel button twice in 1 sec and you should get an immediate reading. this only works with the bonnet up i believe  2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Service sheets in Wiki under Info at bottom. 3 types for the 4.4 on a rolling basis. Basically more filters every 2 years then pollen and oil on other one. Adjust handbrake annually. I have basically abandoned dealer services and done whatever I think needs doing each spring and autumn.
One rainy day I will compile a DIY service sheet , but mine will include lots of little jobs that the engineer in me sees as sensible but often overlooked.
Eg.
Lubricate ( either a squirt of oil or finger full of grease, or both ) anything that moves, eg Clovis pins door hinges, bonnet release cable, etc etc.
I have accepted that I will never have a fully stamped service book, but will know what has been done and when.

Where on a service sheet does it say clean MAPT sensor ?, check antifreeze SG, etc… , but I am always keen to add to the list.

Update:
I had to take out roughly 1L to get the level to 2 notches above mid range for cold. It then showed 1 notch below max, 20min after a hot shut down.
They put in ~9.2L so ~8.2L in it now which correlates with others findings on here.
This is not the first time I've had to remove oil post service. My feeling is they throw in what's written in the book and do a quick check. Thank I check and have my own pump BUT I shouldn't have to do this.
I dread to think how many are out there running too much oil

Rob,
Just a little tip regarding Draper pump.

Last time I got mine out of the box the plastic strip containing the measurements came adrift.
I suggest you get a permanent marker pen and mark up the container whilst yours is still stuck on.

It’s looking well used now after about 5 years, twice a year changes, but I still highly recommend them, it makes doing an oil change so easy, even for an old doddering like me.

You won’t regret the cost Kot, it soon pays dividends, and the peace of mind knowing that it has got the correct type and quantity of oil in the sump is priceless.
