Remove this plate by undoing the two 5 point Torx Security Screws. (You probably won't have a tool for this, but they are available on Ebay.)

does anyone know the size (or a link) to the correct 5-point Torx Security Screws for the ECU ?

Cheers,

.

I already had a set of security Tork drivers but my bolts had been rounded off by someone in the past. Big Cry

So I just got my Dremel out and cut slots in the top of each bolt and removed with a standard screwdriver. Then replaced the bolts with normal hex-head bolts as there really is no need to use security or Torx bolts for this use and next time there will not be any issues for me or anyone else working on the car. Many thanks guys.

The eh-hem 'other' RR site we don't talk about has a size mentioned:

The tool is a security torx. TS-30 is the size. It's a 5 point star instead of the typical 6 point torx.

So going to order a TS-30 -sided

Thumbs Up Cheers, Greg

Did mine today.

This is the correct security tool:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trident-Socket-...2749.l2649

Interestingly, these bolts are for the plate whose only job seem to be to stop someone reaching the 10mm nut below. Slightly pointless and I did wonder if I would take the 300grams off the car and delight in the weight saving Laughing

Nino's plank had me thinking about 2x4 but I didn't have any trouble with access or reach. Yes it's heavy but didn't seem too bad.

. Cheers, Greg

Great guide Thanks,

Used it today to change mine.

My top tip is that a swiss army knife corkscrew is perfect for undoing the bonnet gas strut clips, mine were being stubborn.

Used the GAP IID to reset for a new battery. Origial battery had doen 3191 hours and was manufactured in 2011, so cannot complain.

Although I could not find in the CCF an option for the EXIDE battery 90AH 850A that LR now sell as a replacement. Assuming the old Varta 95Ah 850A setting is OK to use as they are both AGM.

Cheers

I went AGM!

Had the 322 4.4td serviced today and got them to pop on a AGM battery as the last one (2 years old) just wasn’t holding charge, dropping down to 12.3v, the smart charger went into auto recovery mode last night So bit the bullet.
They asked if it was start stop, I said no, but I still want it please.
Will let you know how I get on.
Had to have N/S active dinamics wire fixed too.
Brake fluid changed

My air on is slow to cool, they want to try a re-gas and check for leaks, failing that, compressor!
Rear screen was not working

Aircon slow to cool

You might want to look at this thread for your aircon problem.

Thanks for this.
Bigger than a simple re-gas eh!
Glad it’s a common problem, always reassures me when I see others with same problem.

Update on the AGM battery
It’s a fantastic fix!
Car stood for a good 10 days over Christmas then I knew I had to move it the next day so went with the smart charger to charge it up, it would usually be on 30% by now but the new battery was still on 70% so I think it would be fine to be left for 2 weeks! The old one would never do that. No issues to report with it as yet.
Will update again further down the line.

Special Tool re Battery removal

Hi All
Fantastic write ups from every body! just to say that the security 5star tool is as posted by GGDR came today and fits. My battery is on charge at the moment to bring the charge backup but the feeling is a change is due. Not a good time to do it during a lockdown but I'll be ready when it is.

So thanks to all.

Dave

Great write up, very informative.

Have ordered Halfords agm 019 95amp with 850a cold cranking.
I don’t have the gap tool to reset unfortunately. Will see how it goes tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me why wait 120 seconds before removing battery terminals?

Oh & thanks for the tip regarding 10 mm bolt.

The 120sec delay is to give time for the ECU etc to shut down. Personally ids give it longer to play safe Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Glad it’s not just me then. Mine says this with a charger or a stabilised 13v psu connected Christian.
