would you say that by putting half of the cowl back top half would make much difference to the rad cooling . i think i can fix the top part back and this would make it so easy to remove to get front of engine next time just your thoughts or input this is on the 4.2 sc

up date on the fan cowl i have put it all back but in 4 sections . the right side bottom is fixed any way so i fixed the left side bottom after cutting it half way up the side and put 2 stripes of alloy for the top half to slot in to so now bottom is fixed . now for the top i did try and keep it as one piece but no good so cut it half again at the very top made a temp plate to see if it would work put 4 spire clips and fitted the plate on top the fixings in the rad i put 2 5mm bolts with lock nuts so it holds the bolt in place and then the top will just slide over the bolt so you can put washer and flange nut on and nice and solid makes going in to the front of the engine very easy next time round new bolts came to day for the plate so all fixed

Cowlings do make a big difference to the amount of air a fan moves. That said, if theres plenty of air movement a loss of efficiency may not matter. BMW i3 Electric Car

It was designed to cool the engine while towing a trailer across a desert... The fan needs the cowl to direct the air it pulls from the front of the rad to the back, if it's not there in its entirety the fan can't draw air through the rad, it pulls air in from the sides and does very little to cool...

It will be fine for most of your UK use but get stuck in traffic on a hot day and you will wish you had put it back to how it was designed..... Thumbs Up Pete

Good to hear that you have put all of it back. Totally agree with Haylands comments & can vouch for that issue.

I did run for a short period without a fan cowl & although it worked ok, it did get pretty hot a couple of times in stop start traffic.
Since replacing the cowl I've never had an issue, despite some very hot days & long jams.
