Yes you need to fit the wiring through the tailgate sir...

Had this fitted yesterday and the install looks neat enough.

It seems to record continuously but in one minute 'chunks' on the SD card - is this right?

Makes reviewing footage a pain.

It’s to do with the longer the recording session the more risk of any corruption affecting the whole recording. Break the recording down in to smaller chunks and save each chunk, then if one chunk becomes corrupt the others are safe. Here’s someone else explaining it:

‘’FAT32 has an inherent limit of file size which limits the possibilities. Most folks find 3-5 minutes easier to work with when viewing or looking for a specific incident. Should a file's data get corrupted (rarely happens with good cards and cams) a smaller file size means less recording lost. I've gone from 5 minutes to 3 minutes as what I like, but one cam I use does 1 minute files and I'm OK with that too. It's really just personal preference.’’

The main thing is not to scrimp on the memory card and buy the best you can find that’s most suitable for your dashcam. MY23 D350 HSE

The Land Rover one does not give options - it's one minute clips I guess, but from what's been said, that seems reasonable.

Second question - I can see on the App that the rear camera is recording, when I play back the 'chunk,' I get to select which camera to view. However when I download from the card to my computer, the resulting 1 min MP4s, don't allow me to see the rear camera footage.

This is what would I guess woud be useful after an accident etc So how would I produce a fie of the rear footage?

I’ve always been able to retrieve both the front and rear clips off the SD card. The file names usually have different extensions.

Is it possible that the LR dashcam uses more than one SD card, one for the front and one for the rear?

I can see the clips, from both front and rear cams on the App, and download the same footage to the App under what appears to be the same file. But I can’t export from the app, and if I download straight from the SD card, the rear footage isn’t accessible.

So I can’t see how one could ‘produce’ rear camera footage for evidence if required.

I’ve checked and I can’t see that the rear cam has its own SD card.

Anyone got any insights?

Craig, any update on how the Land Rover Dash Cam is performing? I am weighing up the Pro's & Con's of fitting a Blackvue vs Land Rover OEM Dash Cam for my wife's new Defender

The LR dashcams are very good indeed.. The video recordings are very clear and the voice is not irritating like the Blackvue.

My wife has the blackvues and even she gets annoyed with the voice every time she gets in the car!!

The other main advantage of the LR cams is they don't drain the battery in parking mode unlike the Blackvues which have a known problem. I had to switch them off in my last FFRR. All LR cars from 1984
