Never heard of this before, had to google it.

Its one of those things that will be divisive, I suppose it depends on whether your car is covered by some form of warranty, if you were to use it and had an issue, they could use it as an excuse to get out of their obligations.

On the back of the various conversations on this forum I decided to bite the bullet and so I have been adding cetane into my fuel for nearly a year now.

I believe there is a difference in the engine's performance/responsiveness but because of that, I may not have improved the MPG, although getting to a cruising speed at a quicker rate probably helps overall.

The car doesn't appear to be running hotter, there are no weird smells, exhaust is clean/nil smoke etc and in my mind the engine is quieter.

I have experimented with % of extra Cetane per litres of fuel and have settled at 1ml per litre. A 100 ml syringe and some clear O2 tubing from Amazon helps!

I bought 25 litres for Ā£25. I checked a moment ago and the same product is now Ā£35.

Have you done a comparison against something like Shell V-Power, I'm guessing the Cetane will work out cheaper because its an additive and one container will do a lot of tank fulls?

There is a quite a price variation dependant on brand / supplier. Its not cheap stuff

As a matter of curiosity what vehicle do you run it in and what brand of addative ?

I've had varied success dependant on vehicle RR/Merc/BMW but never fealt a difference between plain labelled vs branded stuff.

As they all use the same narrow range of chemicals, I can't see much of a difference between different brands.
Some may claim to add extra ingredients to clean pumps and injectors etc.

My only concern with these additives is if you regularly add 'too much', you can decrease the lubricity of the fuel thus increasing the wear rate on fuel pumps. Diesel fuel is obviously made to set standards, a minimum lubricity rating is one of these standards.

I purchased HYDRA EHN-99, 2-Ethylhexyl-Nitrate 99% Pure 2 EHN Performance Enhancer Cetane Booster Diesel Treatment.

I am conscious of not using too much for the reasons stated previously, I am mindful of never going over my self determined
1:1 ratio and every now & then I run a tank without adding the cetane.

I have a SDV8 with 60k on the clock.

Given the price of super diesel my basic man-math has told me I am saving!

As a side note, back in Oct I took the lid off of the container to add some to my fuel and couldn't smell it........that is what alerted me to the fact I had caught COVID!! LOL

Rolling with laughter

Great comment and you are correct, I am responding to questions on a forum with personal experience and anecdotes, nothing more.

My car, my choice right!

Think I will just stick to the premium stuff lol. "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

I did a major dispute related to Cetane - a dispute between the main producers of the various additives - as Iā€™m sure you know modern diesel contains a host of additives including cetane and its competitor additives - i am not aware of any of the main fuel manufacturers disclosing their formula and so how a consumer can meaningfully gauge the right amount of any additive to add in order to create a superior end product is beyond me but if it works for you then fine.
