Mines not got a switch, but Greg installed one the same way with a switch.
I leave my lead permanently plugged in with the flap permanently open, but the cable wedges it so it’s not flapping.
I was worried about wearing the plating on the car socket by constantly plugging iid in and out.
The leads are very cheap on eBay. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Easy to run it under the driver footwell trim. I broke one hinged OBD cover when it was hanging down and replaced it (I think it was more than £100!), so now I tuck it up out the way using blu-tac. It can't be seen.

The IIDTool sits next to the driver seat where it also cant be seen. The switch is easily reachable.
Also if you leave it plugged in, it is vital you switch it off or it will drain the battery. Hence the "On" written on the switch.

Thank you folks, cracking idea, now added to my 'to do list'. Also saves kneeling on the driveway to plug in carefully to avoid damage to the docking plug.

To plug in safely once I am in the car, I'd have to be a bloody contortionist

The 'ON' mark is a good idea, ( To avoid my senior moments Whistle )plus I will wrap the end plug in a bit of cling film to stop dust and crap getting inside. Thumbs Up

Yes was me and mine is pretty much the same as RR L322 above.
Leaving the IID plugged in can drain your battery (ask me how I know!)

One day I did leave it on and it paid dividends -just as my MOT was being completed they reversed it off the ramp and a warning came up.

The guv was not happy;
Mechanic: I swear that wasn't there before guv,
Guv: you can't let it go with a warning light...

back and forth continued while took out my phone and cleared the error discreetly.

Then I leaned in, looked at the dash and asked 'them both "what warning light?" Whistle

Was a few quid off Ebay. Mine is wired to the rear of the normal socket leaving the normal socket non-functioning. Can easily be put back. Cheers, Greg

I routed mine round and its completely hidden. Cable tied it and the IID to a round bar on the front of the seat frame. Used a small cork pad to mark the ON side so I can do everything by touch.

Dr Rob - same here, removed mine. I suspect some of the cheaper extension leads do not connect to all the pins (also an issue with some scart extension leads). 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue
