Nah, I've no garage and not only do you need a garage, you really need a ramp.
If I had those, I'd be there 100%

I initially concluded, looking at that sump pic and the gallery circled, that you would be drilling into the gallery alone.

But reading the instructions a few more times gave me a feeling you do have to drill though the two walls and into the main sump chamber.

Whilst Graeme's right about swarf pulling backwards, it's aluminium swarf and if any gets into the sump the magnet (assuming there is a magnet) won't pick it.

£80's a nice sweetener though!

AJG had studied your pics many a time but I hadn't seen the subframe dropped. Impressive in itself. Thing is if the subframe's dropped, I wonder why you wouldn't whip the sump off, sort the drain, flush it all and refit....? Dunno. Probably a good reason but worth thinking though...

I suppose I probably would drop the sump as you say. Just thinking it through though, how likely is dwarf going to get in the sump? Highly unlikely if care is taken, if it did how much would get through the strainer and if that did happen a tiny fragment of soft aluminium how much damage would happen. I think the chances are zero.

Oil consumption is not noticeable as amount in sump is vast
Just would like to sort this to tick of list
Not very desirable when you do push it
Already done o rings, oil cooler seal exhaust temp sensor
Looking at keeping car as nothing will be built like this again (massive torque)
Still cant tick off sat nav upgrade and battery low please start engine (mission too far) 2017 sdv8 4.4 vogue
2011 4.4 tdv8 (present)
2005 td6 vogue
2001 4.6 vogue (lpg conversion)
1999 2.5 diesel vogue (slowest car ever driven)
1996 4.6 vogue
Plus a couple of freelanders

Fair enough, I am thinking the same about mine (keeping it). I have the engine out of mine currently to fix general oil leaks and to find the source of quite a significant usage of oil - about 1.5 L in 200 miles... Lucky it does have such a vast sump!

Edward set up a post, not that many engines come out, well not many here... we'd love to learn about your findings. Assume you have a 4.4TDV8 ?

Taken time to reply as needed to test result. Good news seems to be no more smoke above 3000 rpm.
Dont go there very often as no necessity. Managed to get kit from Germany eventually as it was retuned to sender first time for incorrect paperwork due to brexit. Eventually arrived at acost of £120 (still less than half price! The job itself was straightforward by removing LH driveshaft Etc. The main problem is the diiff is in the way of drilling. The diff cannot be removed without unbolting whole subframe and using jack to push it downwards. Once diff is moved forward access for drilling
the job is pretty straight forward using guide supplied with kit. Didnt remove steering column as may require resetting. Did whole job over couple of weeks as car sorn as it is only used for towing. Cant believe drain would cure problem but as everyone says turbos dont really go on the 4.4. 2017 sdv8 4.4 vogue

You wouldnt happen to have the details of where you bought the kit from, if they are still available i will pick one up also.

Hi The item was on ebay in Germany at a garage clearance. There was a problem with Brexit paperwork but eventually arrived. The sellers were reluctant to send as all the paperwork had to be done by them. I think it was for the L405 but with a bit of bending it fitted OK. Can recommend as no smoke whatsoever now (minor miracle) for just 1 pipe. Well worth the effort. Think Maltings do mod kit but you will have to check
