So I would imagine, another reason to let it all settle a bit On tickover before you turn the engine off?

and get the second turbo spinning more regularly.....if nothing else....

Engine oil pressure is limited by a relief valve. If oil doesn't escape from turbo seals then the relief valve will be open just a little more although as most oil escapes through crankshaft and camshaft bearings and piston cooling jets, the minuscule volume escaping or not escaping from a working turbo seal would have insignificant effect on oil pressure.

Looking at doing turbo drain mod to mine as it is used for towing so don't get chance very often to get revs up.
Does anyone know when top hole is drilled, does this go into sump and what stops metal falling inside engine.
I can see debris being cleared via lower hole but not the top.
Also can this be done without removing subframe 2017 sdv8 4.4 vogue

Just rev it above 2500rpm now and again by using the flappy paddles and save yourself a whole heap of effort and risk of swarf into the engine.... Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

There is a risk to the DPF with the oil being dumped in there, dramatic soot rises on mine pre mod when it was smoking. Driving regularly above 2500 rpm isnt so easy due to the high gearing aqnd huge torque. BMW i3 Electric Car

Steve from my research this is all sump work. You're not drilling the block.

No you don't have to drop the sub frame, although I think it says that in the JLR doc. From what I can tell, the diff has to come out. Of course to do that, the front drive shaft too. Not sure if both shafts.

Drilling the hole and cutting the thread is into a chamber, and gallery I guess you'd call it within the sump, not the main chamber of the sump. That's why is can be flushed to the lower access point. Have a look at this pic, I think (not 100%) the gallery is circled in yellow.

I think the main work is access, drilling and tapping the sump, setting aside the risk factor, would take a short time.

 Cheers, Greg

Never had any problems with dpf - no light ever
Thinking about doing this as car is sorn at present
Drilling and tapping doesn't sound big job
Just dont want to push swarf into sump as it must be open to allow oil to flow
Not really image for car when you do need to boot it 2017 sdv8 4.4 vogue

I don’t know by how much, but the subframe on mine was definitely loosened and moved when the drain mod was done by a MD. I could see where the Dinitrol coating had been disturbed.
Also Stan may confirm that when his was done he complained about a slight vibration at tick over speeds after the work was completed, again by a MD and that the cure involved them loosening the subframe again .

Swarf is prevented from entering the sump by coating the drill bit with grease and removing the bit frequently to clean and renew the grease. The swarf feeds away from the rear of the cutting face so providing the bit isn't allowed to pull back then go forwards again without cleaning the bit and the drain to the lower hole then swarf should not get ahead of the tip.

Mine was done by Green Oval, the subframe was very definitely dropped to do it and it was a 100% cure for the problem. Green Oval were very conversant with the work needed, had done it many times before. BMW i3 Electric Car
