Most issues covered in replies above.

Change the little intake hoses on the donut for silicone ones. They do tend to split. Don’t think anyone makes a silicone set, but someone recently just bought silicone tube and cut to length.....

Though it might be an idea to upgrade all the hoses.

Change the valve on the air con compressor. It’s a bit of a known issue with delayed air con etc. It’s hard to get to otherwise.

You haven’t said what mileage it has done, but I suppose most issues will be age related plus normal wear and tear.

Wow. That's a fairly low mileage for it to have failed catastrophically.

Are engine components available for these engines? I believe LR tend to supply engines rather than components.

One thing that would be worth inspecting/replacing whilst it's out due to ease of access is the EGR temperature sensor in the NS manifold. Awkward as hell whilst the engine is in but a doddle whilst it's out I believe.

Have you removed any of the glow plugs or injectors to put a camera down any of the bores?

The 4.4 is a great engine and is usually pretty reliable so I hope it's an easy fix.

Havent done anything to it yet apart from try a jump pack, engine will be removed by a friend at his garage, stripped, cleaned and inspected/measured etc, they do lots of RR although he has said this will be the first 4.4 he’s seen with a major problem, i spoke to him before buying it and he is confident that providing the block is not beyond repair he can rebuild it, although LR dont supply internal parts there appears to be plenty of bits about second hand, aftermarket bearings, rings etc are about and LR sell gaskets so hopefully the original engine can be saved but we wont know till its out and stripped.

Please don’t mock this idea, but are you sure it is not just the common starter motor problem where you just get a click from the solenoid and it makes no attempt to turn over.
Fingers crossed, it could be a very easy fix.

I was just about the suggest the same as Mike.

Our 2012 4.4 TDV8 is on 22.5k miles but is on it's 3rd starter motor. All they do is *click* when you press the button. It takes 30 mins to get the starter off the 4.4 and it'll come out through the gaps in the subframe so it's incredibly easy to check on the bench with a 12v battery before tearing the whole engine out.

Fingers crossed it could be something very cheap and very simple!

Ive already thought of that and it will be checked before pulling engine but i cant see me being that lucky, wouldn't it be nice !

Only symptom so far is not turning over, ive bought the car from a finance company so could only really try a jump pack and have a very brief and basic look over, the starter just clicks but its a bit of a deeper/heavier click than i would expect to hear from just a faulty starter motor, more a stuck crank kind of click/thud, the only background i got on the car is that it was handed back to the finance company due to an engine fault. Ive bought it with an engine rebuild/replacement in mind as worse case so anything less will be a bonus.

You'll need your volume turned up. It's much more pronounced from outside and is more of a clunk then a click.

When applying 12v to the bendix, it will still engage. Applying 12v to the motor will get the motor to turn.

Applying 12v as the car would will only engage the bendix. The internal link between the 2 on the motor burns out as far as I am aware.

I have stripped a couple to see what goes wrong and it’s only the contacts that burn .
Have a search , both Mike from Scotland and I have posted threads with pictures showing the fix.
