Dead Battery

So the trusty Westie let me down for the first time this Saturday with the arrival of the snow. Had sold a set of wheels to Bl4ckDOg on the forum and arranged to meet him on Saturday morning, loaded up Friday night, out to the Rangie in the morning all good car unlocked, ignition on, pressed start, click, lights faded, flat battery. Put the start pack on it, fired up straight away.

Dropped wheels off, all good. Stopped at Euro's to get a nice new BOSCH 019 AGM battery with 5yr warranty. How's this for mark up ? List price £465 + VAT with my trade discount £202 including WOW. Fitted new battery and reset with IID tool, car now turns over much quicker and low and behold my FBH is working again as is the drivers heated seat which had recently become temperamental.

Happy days !!!!! 2015 L405 Range Rover 4.4Sdv8 Vogue SE, Baltic Blue, Ivory

That’s good news then. I’ve needed a new one on mine for ages, but as it’s not being used much now, and inside, it’s just sat on the trickle charger.

That is a hefty mark up. I got a price from Land Rover for the genuine one, a few weeks ago, and I think it was about £170 with some discount. No idea if it had a guarantee though.

Mine tends to use a battery every 2 years.

Buy cheap off eBay and it just keeps ticking along.

I just switched out a 12 month old Lion battery (previous owner) after it started to struggle in the winter. Big difference in starting speed and less worry about it going flat after half an hour with the doors open. 2008/58 FFRR 3.6 TDV8 Vogue

Well I guess I didn’t do too badly then. The battery I switched out was a LANDROVER branded Varta battery dated 2012 so guessing the original that the car came from the dealership with. 2015 L405 Range Rover 4.4Sdv8 Vogue SE, Baltic Blue, Ivory

Changed mine end of December. Was still the original JLR/Varta battery dated 2011. Changed it for a Varta G14, which is the same battery as original. £160 with discount from Tayna.

Having been bitten (again) recently by Euro Crap Parts it saddens me that they use nonsense to convince people that they are getting a bargain.
I only buy batteries from Tayna these days as their service has been second to none and their prices; well let’s just say that the OP could’ve saved a lot of money Big Cry 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

Dead Battery - what the secret to jumpstarting ?

Okay, so battery completely dead. I am trying to jumpstart. Got the second car connected up with substantial leads. Second car is running.

On the RR jump leads are connected to the battery terminals as best possible given access. ( there seems to be some sort sensor on the negative terminal and secondary connections on the positive)

It’s been like this for 30 mins now and still nothing at all on the RR; no response to start button, no dash, nothing!

Exasperated! What have I missed? TDV8 4.4 2012

run a multimeter on the dead battery while the jump leads are connected. see if you get anything.
there are Jump leads and there are jump leads i have found in the past. i have had what appeared to be substantial leads but they never worked on bigger engines say 2.0 upwards. In the end i brought a set of Halfords leads rated to 5.0 diesel / petrol never had an issue since.

If you do get a 12- 14v reading then i would be looking at fuses. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Battery recharged & car running after some shenanigans; anyone know what this connector is on the bulkhead behind the positive terminal ?

No, unfortunately not. An AGM is winging it’s way through the courier network right now. TDV8 4.4 2012
