I have just remembered something....

If yours has the new gear in the old shape is your actual head unit in the boot? If so you will need a 5 m harness from the boot. However if you are sensible you can use wire taps from the front as you don’t need to worry about speakers

Iirc you only need :
Ibus - Tap from the clock.
12v permanent - from fuse box or anywhere really
12v ignition - cigar lighter
Ground - cigar lighter

As there are no lights as it’s so big I’m pretty sure you don’t need illumination
Aside from the ibus you will need these taps anyway for the most interface Current stable:

2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF

Escuse the intrusion, but, although Chris' L322 is 54 plate it is actually a 2005 with the later MOST. It just looks as if you were talking about the earlier setup.

Apologies if I am wrong. John

Hi all, got this unit installed yesterday.

My vehicle is 2003 with LCD head unit originally, without DSP but does feature an amp in the boot XQK000020. Did cause me some problems as the amp was not switching on as the remote wire was not present in the Eonon loom.

Bought used so I don't know what loom I have but all connections are in the dash, didn't need to run any wires to the back.

Previous owner also told me the unit was fully functional but I don't have steering wheel controls or illumination either in the buttons or screen brightness.

There is a Steering Wheel app but its just a grid of names like VOL+ NEXT PREV etc. which I can't work out what to do.

I have no CAN box but also can't see where it might plug in either to the car or the unit. Obviously rather not spend any more money if its not necessary.

That unit looks the same as mine that I left in the car when I sold it to a breaker last December probably isn’t but I had the same issue with the steering controls never working. Did you get the carplay adapter as mine he that I left in?

If it’s not mine there is obviously an issue and lucky for you there is a fix - unfortunately I don’t remember part one for the illumination I think you just need to bypass the illumination wire directly to the Headunit not into the canbus box do some Googling that’s how I found it.

The second part is to buy ibus app and a resler interface and iirc this gave me steering controls amongst a load of other things including welcome lights Current stable:

Just re read and realised no canbus box that will be your problem - however my work arounds will work I think but you are going to have to lay out £50 Ian for the resler and app - imho it’s worth it as it does a lot Current stable:

Hi mate just want to pick your brains. I may be getting my hands on a 2005 4.2SC with screens in the headrests and I think it has the HK Logik7 but not 100% sure. I want to stick an android HU in it ASAP if I am to bite the bullet and buy it but just wondering with your set up if the steering wheel controls still work? From what I’ve gathered from what’s been said you take ground/power from the cigar lighter, permanent from anywhere with constant live and ibus to communicate with other CAN related stuff. Would the steering wheel controls work though Ibus?

I've got a feeling that you'll find a 2005 SC is the touch screen that uses a different optical connection... I only say that because the 4.2l engine on the SC is a Jaguar unit sourced from Ford.... I you've got a Ford engine you've also got a Ford head unit which is optical not can-bus or i-bus.

If I'm wrong and you do have the BMW non touch screen system, nicked from the E39, then the can-bus wire is the white and grey with yellow rings, the nearest place to pick it up is the redundant CD changer wiring. But if you are using a proper boot extension lead you will connect up to the can-bus in the boot well off the 40 pin connector from the BM54 radio unit... Handy tip, I've just done one for a friend, I cut the wires 1 at a time from the plugs and joined them... when it came to doing the can-bus, illumination and aerial amp the wires in the extension lead were of a different colour to Pete's original menu, so I plugged in the 40 pin extension lead connector to the factory loom and I could see instantly which wires needed to be joined to which!

And lastly it is way easier to run the lead from front to back if you have already removed the plug from the boot end of the loom! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

So you will need a most adapter from Avon about £100 and a 5m most optical lead.

You can pick up bus from the clock we still have bus up until 2009 just a mini version and yes that means steering controls work!

You need to buy one designed for the earlier l322 or x5 but must be thin with no CD player I'd go 10.25" I then got a jaguar male to iso adapter and a iso to a female bow adapter plugged them together and tapped the bus wire and plugged it all in Current stable:
