Horse86 isn't wrong.

But he does not realise that in Europe a Bugatti with a Diesel engine and lower tax will outsell.

Germany 2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Montalcino Red

So I have used AutoScout to look at similar cars in Austria, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It seems that Germany is about €20,000 cheaper than all of them. I will let you know what the salesman comes back with.

I remember from living in the Netherlands that that had to do with the luxury tax cars attract. Which is still there when selling secondhand but can’t be reclaimed as a foreign national, yet still has to be paid as a Netherlands citizen when buying even secondhand in another country.

If you lived on our side of the pond and had to pay our petrol prices you would have a very different mindset my friend. Question

We don't have redwoods here either. Whistle

So the saleman replied with just the normal price for the step €3999.

So I am thinking of making the following offer:

126,590€ (Car) + 3,999€ (Step) - 10200€ (Trade In) = 120, 389

So between 115,000 and 118,000

Or should I be getting a bigger discount?
If I sold my car privately I would hope to €3,000 more...

This is the first time I have ever, brought a car that is this much money. So not sure how much I can haggle...

Hi Luxmoggy, as you are paying the advertised price, as opposed to asking for a discount, I'd ask the dealer to add the steps free of charge. After all, you are paying a top price and they will get the steps at cost. If they really want a sale, they should agree to that I reckon.

Cheers,

Andy

You could always order steps yourself. I’ve purchased and installed a kit from China On an L405 that looks and functions like OEM for around 1k shipped. Install is a bit of a pain but you’ll be saving several thousand you can negotiate with. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Hi horse86

Do you have pictures of that? How are the jacking points on them?

Salesman senses that you are a sucker.

You should be able to get 10-20% off the initial listing price. It takes some patience, though.

Check out some other cars and see where a deal can be made.

Checkout: https://home.mobile.de/SPORTWAGEN-MUNDHENKE#des_301145573 he has fantastic deals - this is a V8 diesel costs new 148K now for 108K with 7.700 KMs. Also, if you want a new build, I can get you 16% discount on that. German dealers don't seem to give a lot of discounts, they advertise what they want to get for the car and maybe give you 1.000 discount to give something. RR's that are part of my car timeline since I bought my first RR Classic in 1999:

10 or 20% is huge! Sales man do not see you as sucker this mindset needs to change. They have their job on the line so they will want to make a deal. They will be sweating it.
I have never got anything like that. I think those days of haggling are over as you couldn't know what else is around. Everything is online and comparable. Margins are tight else they won't be able to sell anything.

Back in the day we used to get discount on luxury items like watches. All that has changed. Just ask them for upgrades or ceramic coat etc as I don't think you will get anything remotely near 10%. They might stop responding to you and take it as an insult... saying this from my experience.

Not a pic deployed at the moment but here they are installed. Looks factory.

They are made to be jacked from. There is a little lip on the underside of the bracket/mounts. Solution for this is one of those hard plastic pucks with the raised rectangle that goes up inside the jack points on Certain cars...and cut a groove in it which fits the lip on the bracket.

Germany 2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Montalcino Red

Hi Horse
Do you have a link to the one that you brought? What issues did you have in fitting them?

------

On the discount, I asked a couple of friends in Germany it isn't so normal to get on cars. I have asked the salesman if he will include the steps and the price stays the same. I will see what he says. If I buy with "cash" (Bank Transfer) that will help.

------

In 2 weeks I hope to be going on holiday so I think I can play the waiting game. If it goes I am sure I will find another I like, but I sure it will be in a boring colour. Also then the car will have been listed for 4-8 weeks. I would expect the price to go down due to depreciation...

How much is that then?

I think the colour and interior are fantastic. I like it when people go for special paint as opposed to Santorini black, which is boring.
