Message to OP, sorry to have hijacked your thread and everyone started fussing about engines I think you'll find the one you're looking at fine. As for colours being a drawback here's mine (I really miss my red one), yours does have the advantage in that I've always liked clear windows.

As I say I'm not really that bothered, might point out that Diesel is more expensive than Petrol in the UK and I pay just over 500 quid in road tax but like I say who cares Geoff |

For the engine, I did look at both. I decided on the SDV8 for towing (I haven't driven an SC).

I've driven both, in fact I've owned both - yours does indeed seem like a good plan. Range Rovers are not really designed to be fun cars but luxurious cruisers that eat up the miles with the driver cosseted in leather and wood. They are great at towing and off roading but in my many years of ownership I've done neither but just like this morning I've driven along the motorway with all my senses totally rested - I didn't fall asleep though.

I don’t see that colour as being an issue at resale..... ok, it’s not black or the grey that the masses seem to prefer, but it’s not a horrendous colour either.

I'm not even sure what that means It seems to be the 5.0 owners who try a little too hard to justify their choice & put down the diesels IMHO The 4.4 SDV8 is a cracking engine & suits the L405 well, particularly for towing. Anyone who suggests the 5.0 is a better tow car is talking The 5.0 V8 is a great engine - faster for sure & more thirsty to match. If it suits your driving style then that's great. There simply isn't a 'best' or 'right' engine choice - they each have strengths and corresponding weaknesses - pick whichever one suits you best, but it doesn't make the other wrong. I can even (almost) understand why people buy the SDV6 |

horse86: I have a 5.0SC and am happy to spend any extra cost involved. I have towed with both 4.4 diesel and 5.0SC and the diesel is better, not just from a cost perspective but also how the power is delivered, the steadiness of the engine holding gears etc. I don't believe the 4.4SDV8 is sold in the US, so how did you compare? I was just trying to help the OP decide, not to tell anyone else what to do. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

so thinking and reading all day, while getting on with life... I think that if the sales man is willing to work on a deal I will go for it.

I guess I bad mouthed 4.4 somewhere and I damaged my RR paint work today. Size of a 50p paint damage. I think I will get a big bill due to paint matching.

If you lived on our side of the pond and had to pay our petrol prices you would have a very different mindset my friend. We don't have redwoods here either. Oh, & please don't use profanities on here - I use a hoe for weeding. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6 |
