Which one ? For my Merc its easy. For the FFRR the offerings seem bewildering in terms of what can or cannot be acheived with one.

I know the GAP II is highly regarded on here but to me it seems a little expensive as you need another device (such as a smartphone or laptop) to use it and you can only use it on a dedicated vehicle. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

It’s a pity it won’t double as a generic ‘basic’ tool for all other manufacturers and read basic OBD codes.

Yep, you can't beat an IID tool, the customer service is second to none, any issues or problems and they will get to the bottom of it for you, that's priceless on it's own.. Pete

I've owned two - the iCarSoft LR II - around £150 from amazon - this will read codes and live values and reset service lights and clear fault codes. It will also do some more advanced functions like reset engine adaptions. Perfectly good scanner.

As I was able to buy a used one at a good price I bought the GAP IID tool which does the above and a few other more specific Land Rover things like setting custom suspension heights and being able to calibrate the suspension which I found very useful.

I've kept the IID mainly because I will probably be able to sell it for the same if not very close to what I paid for it.

Contrary to the experience of others I haven't found the customer support to be great. While they usually respond quickly they don't seem to want to do very much to investigate issues. For example there are some live values I know the LR Specialist system (SSD IIRC) can read but they don't show up on the IID. When I asked GAP support there response was 'we expose everything LR presents' - clearly this isn't the case as I've seen the values with my own eyes and they're not at least clearly found on the GAP tool. Unfortunately they showed no willingness or eagerness to try to help me further. Not what I call good service especially for how much the device costs.
